BIOMEND is a Marie SkodowskaCurie Actions (MSCA) Industrial Doctorate Network (DN) programme that will provide worldclass interdisciplinary training to 15 highachieving doctoral candidates (DCs) in the area of BIOabsorbable Metallic ENdovascular Medical Devices (BIOMEND) to undertake 3year PhD programme.

Your mission Be part of an inspiring doctoral group and shine in your project which could be:

  • Development of Bioabsorbable Alloys for Endovascular Medical Devices (DC12)
  • Development of Adopted Manufacturing Methods for Bioabsorbable Metals (DC3)
  • Computational Design and Performance Simulation of Bioabsorbable Metallic EMD (DC6)
  • Magnesium/Zinc System for Large Bore Percutaneous Access Closure (DC8)
  • Development of a Bioabsorbable Urethral Stent Device for the Treatment of Urinary Disease (DC12)
  • Development of a Bioabsorbable Endovascular Intracranial Stent For The Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms (DC13)
  • Preclinical Validation of Bioabsorbable EMD Prototypes by Development & Application of Histological Methods (DC14)
  • Preclinical Validation of Bioabsorbable EMD Prototypes by Development and Application of Imaging Techniques (DC15)

Tasks

In DC1 and DC2 your PhDproject will cope with Development of Bioabsorbable Alloys and Forming Methods for Endovascular Medical Devices. The objectives of the project are:

1. Development and application of high purity casting processes by modification of equipment.

2. Identification of forming processes and process routes to enable production of thin wires and thin walled tubes from different alloys.

3. Establishment and development of warm forming methods for thin structures of ultrafine grain microstructures using an inhouse micronscale extrusion system to enable production of thin Mg wires and tubes available in Meotec

4. Experimental analysis of microstructural features with regards to mechanical behaviour and degradation properties.

5. Validation of processing route and production of suitable amounts of material.

Requirements

We are looking for Research Associates / PhD candidates (f/m/d) joining our interdisciplinary and highly motivated team. Beside possessing excellent communication skills and a targetoriented analytic working style you should identify yourself within the following profile:

  • You have successfully completed a University degree (Master or equivalent) in Material Sciences Chemistry Metalurgy Mechanical Engineering Biotechnology or similar studies
  • You are affine to novel technologies and significantly interested in the field of medical devices
  • Prior experience in metalurgy coating processes handling of magnesium is beneficial
  • Research standards and conducting experiement are nothing new for you
  • Profound skills in written and oral English are required
  • You are willing to take responsibility for the success of the project right from the beginning

Benefits

We offer:

BIOMEND offers a highly competitive salary and working conditions in accordance with the MSCA regulations. Exact salary will be confirmed upon offer and will be based on:

  • Living Allowance of 3400 to be paid in currency of country where based and with a correction factor to be applied per country.
  • Mobility allowance of 600 to be paid to all DCs recruited.
  • Family allowance of 500 depending on family situation

  • Applicants can be of any nationality but may not have resided or carried out her/his main activity (work studies etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to this recruitment.
  • The applicant must be an early stage researcher being within the first four years of her/his research career and not have a doctoral degree yet.
  • The applicant must be eligable for Research/Work Visa depending on the state of residence.
