Role Description:
JOB OVERVIEW:We are seeking an energetic handson individual to join the Material Science andCharacterization Lab. The lab is responsible for applying advanced analyticaltechnologies to the characterization of materials used in consumer products. Thelab is part of a Failure Analysis Team which provides failure analysis services toresolve reliability manufacturing and material design issues. The successfulcandidate will have interest in applying a variety of techniques such as FTIR GCMS ICMS TGA DSC etc. to materialbased issues.TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENT: Handson operation of FTIR GCMS ICMS TGA and DSC to collect data onthe composition of polymers contaminants in materials outgassing fromadhesives/inks etc. to aid in Failure analysis investigations. Handson preparation of samples for all above mentioned techniques. Samplesinclude polymers adhesives multilayered composites small particulatedebris contamination discoloration etc. Utilization of Microscopy techniques such as optical microscopy tocharacterize sample structures and morphology.PERSONAL SKILL SET: Excellent verbal and written communication Highly organized and detailed with lab analyses Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple high priority tasks at the same time Flexible and able to quickly change course to meet the needs of the business Willing to collaborate closely across the organization Enjoys working with a highly motivated lab team Exceptional attention to detail Ability to work independently as well as in a teamMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Chemistry Engineering PolymerScience Materials Science or related discipline. Must have experience using FTIR instruments. GCMS ICMS TGA and DSCexperience will be a plus. Experience in sample preparation for above mentioned techniques. Knowledge of safe work practices in a lab environment and experience workingaround solvents adhesives polymers etc. Ability and aptitude to work with and manipulate small objects while viewingunder a microscope. Highly effective communication skills including ability to seek out direction askclarifying questions communicate findings and accept feedback
