Job Summary

Physical Therapist -District-wide

The start date for this position is 8/25/2026 for the 2026-2027 school year.

SalaryNote:Per our collective bargaining agreement with the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Association a candidate who holds a Masters degree that is hired as a Physical Therapist will be paid on the MA45 column of our licensed salary schedule. A candidate who holds a Bachelors degree that is hired as a Physical Therapist will be paid on the BA60 column of our licensed salary schedule.

Overview of Position:

School-based Physical Therapists use their unique expertise in movement and function to promote motor development and the participation of all students including students with motor challenges in the everyday routines and activities that are part of the school experience. Physical Therapists work as important members of special education teams for students who require physical therapy to access their education. The Physical Therapist designs and performs therapeutic interventions including compensation remediation and prevention strategies and adaptations focusing on functional mobility and safe efficient access and participation in educational activities and routines in natural learning environments.

Responsibilities/Duties:

In accordance with the standards of Oregon Physical Therapist Licensing Board plan and provide individualized physical therapy in the school setting.

  1. Work with students with motor challenges to inspire a spirit of persistence competence and independence.
  2. Provide comprehensive assessment and appropriate recommendations for students with orthopedic or motor impairments.
  3. Actively participate as a member of Individualized Education Program (IEP) team in planning goals and educational programs for students who qualify for physical therapy (PT) services or supports.
  4. Under a physicians prescription/order plan and provided PT services based upon individual student evaluations of functional/developmental skills as well as other assessments in individual small group or whole class settings.
  5. Prepare records and reports for eligibility evaluations services IEPs and transitions according to district procedures or as directed.
  6. Regularly monitor student progress on individual goals and PT services.
  7. Communicate effectively with other health providers and educators regarding student evaluations programs and progress.
  8. Serve as a resource consultant and trainer to provide specialized suggestions and/or equipment for use by educators and/or parents.
  9. Lead in the assessment selection training management and use of assistive technology related to motor impairment.
  10. Supervise and direct assignments for Licensed Physical Therapy Assistants (LPTAs).
  11. Instruct educational staff in positioning handling and mobility needs of students with orthopedic or motor impairments.
  12. Design construct and adapt materials and equipment to provide support in the educational setting.
  13. Provide consultation services to educational personnel regarding students gross motor and functional abilities focusing on student access and independence.
  14. Work well with teams as well as working independently.
  15. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines attending meetings and following schedules.
  16. Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Working knowledge of applicable laws and Physical Therapist practice regulations and standards;
  2. Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills;
  3. Demonstrates organization leadership and time management skills;
  4. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with teams;
  5. Valid drivers license and vehicle available for use on the job;
  6. Ability to become proficient navigating in internal and external data systems including data entry and report production pertinent to delivery of school health services;
  7. Ability to physically perform assigned duties;
  8. Ability to multi-task and work independently with high degree of accuracy efficiency and attention to detail.

Educational Requirements:

  1. Valid Physical Therapy licensure from the State of Oregon.
  2. Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  3. Bachelors Degree from a professional program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association is required; a Masters or Doctorate Degree is preferred.
  4. Two or more years of clinical experience in pediatrics or in an educational setting is preferred.
