Qualifications:
- successful experience as a secondary ScienceTeacher and licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for grades 9-12
- evidence of success in developing collaborative relationships that result in academic excellence
- a commitment to continuous improvement
- demonstration of leadership and group facilitation skills
- demonstrated and successful experience with one or more of the following: curriculum development school improvement process and/or alignment and assessment of state and/or nantional standards and expectations
- research based knowledge of successful secondaryscience programs
- ability to supervise teaching personnel within the department
- ability to effectively communicate with staff students and parents
Responsibilities:
- maintains a teaching load typically 3 classes but can be adjusted by the principal
- responsible for the continuous improvement of department course alignment assessments and instructional strategies working cooperatively with the department members
- establish and achieve short-range and long-range department goals consistent with both building and district school improvement goals
- oversee the revision and implementation of the curriculum for the ScienceDepartment
- recommend to the principal the assignment of all teachers in the department
- organize the interview process and recommend to the Principal candidates for teaching positions in the department
- evaluate teachers in the department in accordance with existing policies
- assist with the in-service training programs for new teachers as prescribed by the Principal
- work collaboratively with all department staff in improving student achievement
- responsible for checking with substitute teachers to see if they have all the materials needed to effectively carry out their assignment
- assist the Principal in developing and implementing the annual department budget
- conduct regularly scheduled department meetings to ensure departmental members professional growth and continuous curricular improvement that improves student achievement
- serve as a resource person to the principal and/or central office administration in the articulation of the curriculum to meet state and/or federal guidelines
- other duties as may be assigned by the building Principal and/or central office administration
Compensation:
In accordance with Burlington Educators Association Unit D contract
