Job Summary
We are seeking an Industrial Engineer within our Materials Management team in the department of Stations Facilities and Structures. The Stations Facilities & Structures division oversees the inspections operations and maintenance of all MBTA facilities from stations to office buildings and structures such as bridges and tunnels.
The Industrial Engineer will support the Stations Facilities & Structures division through the design and optimization of materials management processes with a strong emphasis on equipment asset management. The Industrial Engineer will develop efficient workflows planning methods and control systems that improve how materials tools and critical equipment assets are tracked maintained and addition to strengthening inventory accuracy and standardizing asset controls across trade shops the Industrial Engineer supports planning for equipment investments and procurements by analyzing operational needs assessing lifecycle data and informing long-term asset and material strategies. This work enhances equipment readiness promotes transparent lifecycle management and ensures that procurement and capital planning decisions align with operational priorities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of key equipment in manufacturing facilities ensuring their condition meets safety standards and that preventative maintenance contracts are managed effectively.
- Develop and/or prepare technical specifications for maintenance contracts.
- Analyze equipment lifecycle data to inform planning for capital investments replacements and procurement needs.
- Work closely with operators technicians and maintenance personnel to optimize workflows eliminate
bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency.
- Support asset and inventory management activities including establishing baseline inventories validating asset tagging standards tracking warranties and ensuring accurate documentation across trade shops.
- Develop and maintain control systems that strengthen material accuracy traceability and compliance with departmental standards.
- Evaluate material-related controls identify gaps and propose corrective actions to improve consistency and accountability across facilities.
- Map key business processes and identify areas of improvement simplification and cost reduction.
- Provide data analysis to support decision-making.
- Coordinate with leadership to capture operational requirements and integrate them into inventory maintenance and asset-planning processes.
- Coordinate with leadership to document end-to-end processes and draft related Standard Operating Procedures.
- Uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
- Respond to each inquiry whether from a customer vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authoritys driven by customer service quality standard.
- Establish and maintain sound union/management relations while upholding the rights and interests of management and adhering to collective bargaining agreements.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies service disruptions and/or other events as needed.
- Respond directly or through others and/or report to work for emergencies extreme weather conditions or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week.

- Bachelors degree in Industrial Mechanical Electrical or Civil Engineering from an accredited Engineering Program.
- Three (3) years of industrial engineering experience.
- Effective organizational analytical time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Experience with planning operations engineering and/or project management.
- Experience working with tools that support planning such as asset and database management visualization software graphic design simulation tools such as ARENA and interest in software tools relevant to light manufacturing and operations such as AUTOCAD TULIP and others.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to translate raw data into compelling insights.
- Highly organized motivated and have excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and present effectively to a diverse group of stakeholders and customers.
- Possession of a valid drivers license without infractions in accordance with MBTA policy.
- Have the ability to operate MBTA Vehicles for the use of traveling to job sites when needed.
- Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.
- Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week 365 days per year.
