POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Support Officer provides frontline support to students visitors and the wider University community by delivering a welcoming approachable and student-centred experience. As a first point of contact the role supports effective navigation of campus services systems and resources contributing to a positive and connected student experience.
Working within established procedures and as part of a collaborative team the position supports the day-to-day operations of Student Connect through responsive service delivery operational support and promotion of self-service resources. The role also contributes to maintaining a professional organised and inclusive service environment.
Reports to: Manager Student Connect
Reporting lines may be adjusted in line with organisational changes.
Key Accountabilities Summary
- Provide a welcoming and supportive first point of contact for students and visitors at service points. Assist with wayfinding and directing students to appropriate services facilities and support teams.
- Respond to general enquiries in person and during peak periods via phone. Refer more complex enquiries to the appropriate Student Connect service tier or relevant teams.
- Share peer insights and experiences to support other students in navigating university life and accessing available services.
- Provide basic guidance on using University systems and platforms (e.g. myRMIT Canvas student portal and RMIT website). Encourage the use of self-service tools and online resources.
- Distribute student documents and ID cards.
- Support events and activities such as family events and campus tours.
- Maintain a tidy organised and welcoming service environment.
- Participate in team briefings and follow established procedures to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Undertake other duties as required consistent with the nature of the role
Key Selection Criteria
- Current RMIT student with good standing in academic progress.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a range of people including students staff and visitors.
- Friendly and approachable manners with a willingness to assist others.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team in a service problem-solving skills including the ability to identify when to refer enquiries to the appropriate channels.
- Confidence in using digital platforms and willingness to learn University systems (e.g. myRMIT Canvas Student Connect Portal).
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks during busy periods.
- Availability to work flexible hours including peak periods such as Orientation and enrolment.

Compliance Requirements
All academic appointments at RMIT Vietnam must meet University and local regulatory requirements including English proficiency background checks and (for international candidates) eligibility for a work permit.
English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role the minimum requirement is IELTS (General) with a score of at least 5.5 (or equivalent as outlined in the Recruitment Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
