Academic Position at the Design Lab MENDELU Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology

Research Area: Design Furniture and Woodworking

The departments of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mendel University in Brno represent modern and dynamic workplaces with a long tradition and robust scientific background. The Design Lab - a new building focused on design located in the Mendel University campus in Černá Pole serves as an open space for gatherings creation exhibitions and education. The ground floor with a terrace fosters a creative and informal atmosphere complemented by an espresso bar while the upper floor is designated for teaching workshops and conferences. The dl.M project is based on the belief that economic development depends on the ability to create and sell ones products on a global scale. Therefore the goal is to prepare students not only for work in quality companies but also for starting their own brands and businesses. The new space connects education design and practice offers activities for students and alumni and creates a foundation for presenting high-quality artistic and scientific outputs. Emphasis is placed on understanding the entire process of product creation where the idea itself constitutes only a small part of the path to success.

• Planning organizing and overseeing all aspects of the workplaces activities
• Managing the budget and resources of the workplace
• Leading academic and research personnel including regular evaluations
• Pedagogical and research activities in the field
• Ensuring high-quality teaching and student guidance
• Supporting research activities and acquiring grants for the department
• Collaborating with other departments

What do we expect from you

• University education - at least a Ph.D. in design furniture woodworking or a related field; the title of associate professor or professor is an advantage
• Excellent active knowledge of Czech and knowledge of English for teaching and publishing purposes
• Documentable research activities in the fields of design furniture woodworking or related fields experience in publishing in journals with an Impact Factor and leading research projects at both the domestic and international level
• Ability to navigate labor law and economic rules in higher education
• Organizational managerial and communication skills
• Predispositions for team and independent work
• Personal and professional attributes for pedagogical activity
• Willingness to work on further personal and professional development
