Job Summary

Position Summary

  • Leads and directs the assigned crew in performing maintenance tasks including various aircraft sheet metal repairs and replacements to ensure airworthiness in accordance with customer specifications and FAA standards.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) of their trade mentoring junior sheet metal mechanics through On-the-Job-Training (OJT).
  • Reads and follows instructions and safety guidelines to ensure proper and safe completion of assigned work.

Functional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the assigned crew in performing maintenance functions including sheet metal repairs and replacements ensuring compliance with customer specifications and FAA standards.
  • Ensure and enforce proper execution of parts tagging instructions (repairable serviceable or condemned parts).
  • Verify that serviceable tags are installed on components or included in the appropriate work package.
  • Route aircraft parts and components removed during maintenance to the appropriate cage with timely documentation following Flightstars standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure proper identification of the work scope for all assigned tasks and ensure necessary FAA-approved technical data is available.
  • Assign work to the crew in collaboration with Production Control maximizing productivity while monitoring performance.
  • Maintain accountability for the quality efficiency and timeliness of both personal and crew work.
  • Provide on-the-job training on aircraft work standard operating procedures and safety standards to the assigned work crew.
  • Review non-routine cards to identify repairs or replacements promptly.
  • Accurately identify necessary parts materials and tools for each non-routine job and estimate maintenance with precision.
  • Monitor and manage the flow control and completion of work documents within the area of responsibility.
  • Exhibit flexibility by arriving early or staying late as required to ensure smooth shift turnover.
  • Interface with customer representatives to obtain approval for original additional or revised work estimates.
  • Perform skilled sheet metal repairs and replacements of structural parts as needed.
  • Use maintenance manuals to identify and locate aircraft components and accurately implement instructions.
  • Identify the structural composition of the aircraft (e.g. aluminum or composite) before starting repairs.
  • Address noted discrepancies and research manufacturer manuals for proper repair procedures.
  • Use hand tools or equipment provided to perform skilled manual and technical work as instructed.
  • Lift and carry hand tools parts and work materials; ascend and descend ladders and platforms; and frequently work in positions such as stooping kneeling or squatting.
  • Possess working knowledge of ATA Codes (Chapter and Subchapters) aircraft zones narrow-body airframe familiarization and industry standards.
  • Read and follow all instructions cautions warnings and notes necessary for safe and proper completion of tasks.
  • Prepare and maintain simple records such as work orders logs and time and material records.
  • Be proficient in Flightstars integrated operating systems (AMROS) for locating parts identifying alternate part numbers and requesting parts and tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Position Qualifications

Experience:

    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in aircraft sheet metal work including techniques terminology and parts.
    • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 91/121/145 preferred.
    • B737 and or A320 experience preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

CERTIFICATION:

FAA Airframe License or documented eligibility for an FAA repairmans certificate
