Job Summary

About the role

The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the workshop ensuring efficient workflow high-quality output and adherence to safety standards. This role involves managing staff maintaining equipment and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Reporting to: Operations Manager
Working location: BYDs Reading site RG2 0TG

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan organize and supervise all workshop activities

  • Manage and lead a team of technicians mechanics or tradespeople

  • Allocate tasks and monitor productivity and performance

  • Ensure all work is completed to required quality standards

  • Maintain workshop equipment tools and machinery

  • Implement and enforce health and safety procedures

  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering of materials and parts

  • Liaise with clients suppliers and other departments

  • Prepare reports on operations performance and costs

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide hands-on support when required

Your profile:

  • Proven experience in a workshop or technical environment

  • Previous supervisory or management experience

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Good technical knowledge relevant to the industry (e.g. automotive engineering manufacturing)

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities

  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Basic computer skills (e.g. inventory or job tracking systems)

  • Forklift license (desirable but not always required)

  • Right to work in the UK

Working conditions:

  • Workshop-based environment (may involve noise machinery and physical work)

  • May require extended hours or weekend work depending on workload
