The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting

for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Ketchikan Alaska!


What you will be doing:
This is a dynamic full-time year-round position that is the face behind the counter for the Commercial Fisheries division of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office in Ketchikan. This position will primarily interact with commercial subsistence and personal use fishery participants in the Ketchikan area in support of local and regional fisheries management while providing a vital blend of public service administrative support and technical assistance for management and research biologists. The working environment you can expect:
This position is in the ADF&G office in Ketchikan on the second floor of the First Bank building next to the Plaza mall. It stays busy with a constant flow of in-person and phone interactions data processing permit issuance and collaborative support for area management biologists research biologists and other seasonal personnel. This work will require the incumbent to coordinate and execute local errands to support programs and office needs including distribution of mail and in-town travel support for biologists and seasonal staff. Additionally travel may occur for training or regional staff meetings with trips to other communities in Southeast Alaska and occasional opportunities to assist in field work. This is an in-town position in Ketchikan Alaska and housing relocation and transportation are not provided.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
  • Public service/customer service and the ability to interact with recipients of services in a way that provides accurate timely and effective information and service in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to enter and organize data.
  • Successfully organizes activities tasks and projects that require accuracy planning and record keeping. Completes work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with computers software applications and databases (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent verbal interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to comprehend complex regulations or policies and procedures and communicate them to the public.
  • Experience processing application from paper to electronic systems including proofing for errors validating information through third party systems working with the applicant and relevant ADF&G staff to correct errors and communicating data issues to supervisors.
  • Experience working and managing an office environment.

  • A valid drivers license is required.

  • This position may be in possession of or have access to firearms/ammunition.

  • First Aid/CPR Certification. Provided by the department at no cost to the employee.
  • State of Alaska Notary Public.
  • Firearms and wildlife training and certification.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures precedents and policies in administrative informative and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is an offense that is (1) a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and (2) has as an element the use or attempted use of physical force or the threatened use of a deadly weapon committed by a current or former spouse parent or guardian of the victim by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse parent or guardian or by a person similarly situated to a spouse parent or guardian of the victim.
