Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President of Behavior Services the Director of Behavior Services is responsible for assisting in the oversight of all Behavioral Services and supports to individuals residing in Heartshares residential programs and attending Heartshares day programs in accordance with OPWDD regulations and Heartshares policies procedures and philosophies. The Director of Behavioral Services offers the Interdisciplinary Teams assistance and support as required aids and training to all facilities as needed and actively participates in regulatory compliance strategic planning and policy development related to Behavioral Services. This includes close consultation with Directors of Programs as well as Day Program and Residence Coordinators/ addition the Director of Behavioral Services will provide direct clinical supervision to assigned Behavioral Intervention Specialists.

  1. Provide supervision training and professional development to Behavioral Intervention Specialists and Behavior Support Professionals. Provide ongoing consultation to these staff in developing implementing and monitoring behavior support plans and addressing obstacles effectively.
  2. Serve as a key member of the departments leadership team contributing to department-wide decision-making.
  3. In conjunction with the Associate Vice President of Behavioral Services develop training curricula pertaining to behavioral services and lead grant development activities.
  4. Provide training orientation and oversight to newly hired Behavioral Intervention Specialists as assigned as well as provide clinical supervision and oversight to BISs in their caseload.
  5. Promote ongoing professional development including training in evidence-based practices and regulatory compliance.
  6. Identify service gaps and lead program development initiatives including expansion of behavioral supports such as intensive services crisis response and program-specific training needs.
  7. Provide in-service trainings for residential and day programs as needed or required.
  8. Consult with Interdisciplinary Treatment teams regarding difficult challenges; assist with problem solving and implementation of resolutions.
  9. Support the development of systems for proactive behavioral services crisis prevention and intervention.
  10. Provide direct behavioral services when needed including the development of behavioral support plans for difficult cases and/or where there may be a vacancy.
  11. Review and approve all FBAs BSPs and all other plans in caseload. Ensure BSPs are least restrictive address function include environmental support etc.
  12. Be available 24 hours a day via cell phone to respond to behavioral crises as appropriate in consultation with the Associate Vice President of Behavioral Services.
  13. Ensure appropriate intervention in cases of behavioral crises and suicidal ideation including on-call responsibilities and emergency calls related to this.
  14. Participate in departmental and agency committees and work on special projects/initiatives as needed or assigned.
  15. Consult with and serve as a liaison to community providers especially psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services.
  16. Represent Heartshare and its administration both within and outside the organization in a manner that promotes the values goals and mission of Heartshare.
  17. Ensure adherence by program staff and Behavior Intervention Specialists to Heartshares mission and policies/procedures.
  18. Follow all agency state and federal regulations to maintain program compliance.
  19. Oversee audit readiness and response including participation in surveys and corrective action plans.
  20. Collaborate with other departments and committees (i.e. Quality Assurance Human Rights Incident Review Committee) to address deficiencies identify trends and implement improvements.
  21. Participate actively in appropriate industry and professional forums.
  22. In the absence of the Associate Vice President of Behavioral Services respond to emergencies and make pertinent decisions as necessary.
  23. Serve as a role model for individuals and staff. Abide by agency dress code. Always conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  24. Remain sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of individuals families and program staff.
  25. Maintain professional relationships and communication with families guardians and advocates regarding services concerns and program initiatives.
  26. Participate in in-service training and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attend external trainings workshops and/or PPT meetings at direction of Associate Vice President of Behavioral Services or member of Administration.
  27. Maintain certification in CPR and SCIP.
  28. Undertake any additional tasks and initiatives as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Behavioral Services or a member of Administration.
  29. Complete payroll for assigned supervises and review time off requests.
  30. Engage in hiring tasks as assigned by Associate Vice President of Behavioral Services or a member of Administration.


Qualifications
  • Masters degree in from a program in a clinical or treatment field of psychology social work school psychology or applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical interventions and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; OR a National Board certification in Behavior analysis (BCBA)and a Masters degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD; OR a New York State license in mental health counseling.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities including the devising implementing and monitoring of behavior support plans and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience preferred. Experience with program development staff supervision and systems-level thinking.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD regulations and behavioral support services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be well organized
  • Excellent communication teaching and modeling skills
  • Strong background in behavior modification and pharmacology
