Job Summary

ABORIGINAL SUPPORT WORKER NANNUP THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY

About the Role:

The Aboriginal Support Worker will provide yarning mentoring interactive therapeutic activities education mediation and support to residents in a residential setting. They will also develop relationships with Aboriginal communities in the Great Southern and South-West regions. They willpromote Cyrenian services and develop Elder groups who can advise and support the programs offered by Cyrenian House.

The position is offered as a full-time role working 76 hours per fortnight and is located at our Nannup TC in the Southwest surrounded by natural bushland.

Cyrenian House considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under section 50d of the Equal Opportunity Act1984 (WA).

Level 4/5 $93490-$110413 per annum. (plus a 3% increase from April 2026)

To be appointed / successful in this role you will require the following key qualifications skills and experience:

  • Have a Certificate III in Community Services and AOD and/or experience in working with Aboriginal people in an AOD service (minimum).
  • Possess a sound knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal.
  • Have demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Take an active role in Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Demonstrated and well developed interpersonal verbal and written communication.
  • Current National Police Clearance Working with Children Checkand First Aid Certificate.

Desirable:

  • Have an understanding of the 12-step philosophy and Community as a method Treatment Model.
