Job Description

About the Project

ACCIONA delivers major rail upgrades as part of the Southern Program Alliance removing level crossings and improving safety and reliability across Melbournes Frankston line. The program upgrades stations rail infrastructure and surrounding precincts creating long term improvements for local communities.

The Position

The Aboriginal Engagement Advisor has the prime responsibility of building the cultural competency of the Alliance. The role will aim to educate guide and oversee the coordination of all aspects relating to cultural engagement both internally and externally to the Alliance. As a leader within the Alliance you are an advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people creating a culturally safe workplace driving employment and business opportunities and championing cultural education for the Alliance team.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support initiatives that create a safe equitable and culturally respectful workplace addressing barriers such as ageism and ableism
  • Identify and understand complex socio-ecological systems and their interdependencies
  • Implement practices and systems to ensure all employees can participate to their fullest ability within the framework of Australian EDI standards
  • Lead and influence the value of diversity equity and inclusion within the people strategy
  • Actively participate and engage in the Victorian First Nations Leadership Group
  • Participate in any initiatives developed and delivered by the National First Nations Leadership Group
  • Implement initiatives that appropriately celebrate National Reconciliation Week (NRW) NAIDOC Week and the Victorian Aboriginal Business Forum with the purpose of building respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories
  • Assist with Social Procurement targets by engaging Aboriginal businesses with opportunities for tender.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience working in and amongst Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Strong understanding and awareness of Aboriginal Businesses and Social Enterprise
  • Experience in Traditional Owner Engagement
  • Experience in the Construction industry is preferred but not mandatory
  • Australian Drivers License is mandatory
  • Ability to obtain a Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card
