Job Summary

The trend in premium vehicles toward increasing functionality and complexity in electronics especially in driver assistance systems continues unabated. The E/E architecture in the area of driver assistance is characterized by a multitude of interconnected systems for which adequate measures must be taken within the framework of safety-oriented development to prevent and control possible malfunctions as well as to protect against manipulation and cyber-attacks. The international standards ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) ISO 8800 (Safe AI) ISO 21448 (SOTIF / Safety of the Intended Functionality) and the introduction of the approval regulation UN R155 for automotive cybersecurity (along with ISO 21434) emphasize the importance of this topic. Our Dependability team (Functional Safety SOTIF and Automotive Security) in driver assistance is committed to this major challenge and plays a key role in shaping the future in this field.

What to expect

  • As a Senior Safety Engineer you will be responsible for creating the required safety evidence safety concepts and analyses for driver assistance development projects working closely with the respective function developers. You ensure that the necessary proofs for Functional Safety SOTIF and Cyber Security are available at the respective milestones plan the activities and monitor progress.
  • You analyze and evaluate new customer functions regarding their safety relevance and derive safety goals doing so you also continuously improve methods and tools.
  • Your diverse tasks include hazard and risk analysis of the overall system chain as well as safety analyses (e.g. FTA DFA HAZOP).
  • You lead work teams and sustainably build a team of Safety Engineers to provide professional support to BMW development departments in Germany.
  • The release recommendation for Functional Safety for which you are responsible represents an important component for the overall approval of development results and strengthens the safety culture of the department.

What do you bring

  • Masters degree in physics Electrical Engineering Mechatronics Technical Computer Science or a comparable field.
  • 5 years experience and practical knowledge of ISO 26262 standard as well as the relevant methods and strategies of Functional Safety. Experience in ISO 8800 is desirable.
  • Experience with ISO 26262 part 3 4 & 6.
  • Deriving Safety Goals. Development of Functional Safety Concept Technical Safety Concept
  • Hands-on experience conducting safety analyses (e.g. FMEA FTA DFA HAZOP).
  • Safety Mechanisms & Fault Analysis
  • Experience and user knowledge in E/E architecture design and automotive functional software and hardware development.
  • Evaluation and decision-making competence in handling complex and challenging situations uncertain information and volatile conditions.
  • Experience in ISO26262 Supplier Management including expertise in Functional Safety process and Supplier steering (SLA/DIA)
  • Experience in ADAS feature like Sensor Safety handling (Camera/Radar) is added advantage.
  • Good experience in Functional Safety process and Supplier steering (SLA/DIA)
  • SW development for example Fusa tooling as a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO 21434 Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA)
  • Advanced competence in knowledge management willingness for lifelong learning and sharing of specialized knowledge.
  • Proven project management experience completes your profile.
  • Professionally proficiency in English is required and German is an added advantage.
