Job Summary
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for managing day to day accounting operations maintaining accurate financial records supporting financial reporting ensuring compliance with statutory and internal controls and providing leadership/guidance to Assistant Accountants/Accounts Assistant particularly on operational accounting activities within the engineering and projects environment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Functions
Manage and execute the month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring all accounts are reconciled accurately and promptly.
Manage Accounts Payable (A/P) by verifying documentation obtaining internal approvals prepare payment runs and ensure timely payments
Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable balances and transactions
Perform weekly and monthly reviews for bank reconciliation corporate credit card and petty cash to ensure all cash transactions are accurately recorded and any discrepancies resolved promptly
Financial Reporting Audit & Analysis
Preparation of monthly quarterly and annual financial reports.
Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Assist with variance analysis and budget tracking.
Provide data and analysis to support management decision-making.
Ensure all financial activities comply with local tax regulations and accounting standards.
Liaise with auditors and tax consultants during audits and reviews.
Team Leadership & Supervision
Coordinate daily activities of Assistant Accountants / Accounts Assistants.
Review basic accounting work for accuracy and completeness.
Provide guidance coaching and on-the-job training.
Ensure timelines for reporting and reconciliations are met.
Promote teamwork accountability and continuous improvement.
Escalate complex issues to the Chief Accountant.
Systems & Process Improvement
Maintain and update accounting systems and databases.
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve operational efficiency.
Support implementation of new financial tools or ERP systems.
Administrative & Cross-Functional Support
Maintain organized and up-to-date financial documentation and filing systems.
Work closely with other departments such as procurement sales and HR to ensure smooth financial. operations.
Provide financial guidance and support to non-financial staff when needed and respond to internal and external queries regarding financial transaction
Qualifications :
Required Qualifications
Education: Degree in Accounting Finance or related field; CPA certification required
Experience: Minimum of 6 years in a similar accounting role preferably in Engineering Sector
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with accounting software like Tally or ERP systems
Skills and Competencies
Analytical and Critical Thinking: Proven ability to analyze complex financial data identify trends and draw conclusions that inform business decisions.
Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all financial documentation.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Time Management & Organization: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines especially during close periods.
Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying and resolving accounting issues and control weaknesses.
