Job Summary

Traffic Control & Engineering is responsible for administration engineering and operations related to the installation manufacturing maintenance and removal of signs flexible bollards moveable barriers in-house traffic sign production and other traffic control devices. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers sign designers planners inspectors IT experts analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.

Traffic Control & Engineering is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to serve as Assistant Deputy Borough Engineer (ADBE). Under the direction of the Deputy Borough Engineer (DBE) and Borough Engineer this role provides leadership in supervising technical staff managing workflow and productivity coordinating complex traffic engineering projects and supporting the review of capital projects affecting borough this capacity the ADBE assists the DBE in overseeing technical staff within the Manhattan Borough Engineering Office by monitoring workload performance and productivity; recommending and implementing process improvements; and coordinating assignments to ensure timely completion of work orders studies and project deliverables. The position also includes mentoring staff supporting professional development and fostering an inclusive collaborative and high-performing work environment. The role involves overseeing and coordinating traffic engineering projects studies and investigations including analyzing transportation data reviewing field surveys and preparing or supervising technical reports and memoranda. Work orders are reviewed and approved for compliance with established plans standards and specifications and field inspections or site evaluations are conducted or supervised as needed. A key component of the position is supporting the review and coordination of Capital Projects Street Improvement Projects (SIPs) and Mayoral or Agency initiatives. This requires close collaboration with planning engineering and operations units to assess impacts on traffic control signage curb regulations and street design while providing technical feedback tracking progress and elevating issues to the DBE when necessary. The ADBE also supports efforts to improve traffic safety and mobility by helping assess the need for traffic control measures and devices assisting with updates to traffic regulations when warranted and contributing to borough-wide traffic studies and investigations. Tracking the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices is included among core responsibilities. As a liaison to other NYCDOT divisions City and State agencies contractors community boards and the public the ADBE supports coordination on traffic policies capital projects and street operations and assists in preparing written responses to correspondence and public inquiries. Administratively the ADBE supports the DBE in monitoring workload and performance metrics related to assigned projects and staff and performs related duties as assigned. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and inclusively fostering professional growth and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders. Additional Information
Note: Less than 2 yrs. City Service - New Hire Rate: $85175 2 or more yrs. City service - Minimum Incumbent Rate: $97951. This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed between the City and DC37.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
