Blue Bottle is writing a new chapter to the story and traditions of coffee and hospitality and the Safety Health and Environmental Manager (US) will help us support the company and culture to do it. Under the direction of the Director Center of Expertise this is an amazing opportunity to drive a significant portion of the environmental health and safety program and compliance elements at one of the fastest-growing specialty coffee and consumer brands in the world. Employees are required to be based within 50 miles of one of the following established Blue Bottle Coffee geographic locations:The San Francisco Bay Area
You will:
Manage the Workers Compensation and general liability processes.
Partner with Blue Bottle teams to identify and assess health & safety risks develop remediation plans and monitor mitigation activity.
Develop analyze and monitor metrics best practices and regulatory issues to identify key areas of focus for proactive health & safety programs and reduction in overall unsafe conditions employee incidents and Workers Compensation claims
Responsible for the development and implementation of company-wide safety programs focused on cafe production and support environments. Including slip/trip/fall prevention ergonomic practices fire/life safety workplace violence prevention incident response and other OSHA safety compliance programs
Advise key stakeholders and teams across the organization on safety/security protocols and procedures
Ensure Blue Bottle is in regulatory compliance as mandated by local state and federal agencies including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Participate in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting
Conduct routine and follow-up environmental health safety and hazard inspections of facilities
Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials fire and smoke incidents or unknown hazards; prepare reports of findings and submit recommendations.
Lead projects and programs including creating communications training materials and other change management mechanisms to educate stakeholders on new and revised policies processes and programs.
Stay up to date on all applicable federal state and local employment regulations and industry standards.
Develop and maintain SHE policies to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Additional safety health and environmental functions as needed based on the evolving needs of the business.
You are:
- Highly skilled in quickly building relationships and consensus at all levels of an organization.
- Able to lead through influence in a collaborative environment; demonstrate flexibility and develop strong businesspartnerships.
- Able to develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate to complex scope
- Courageous and able to deliver difficult messages to people at any level of the organization including executives.
- Excellent at problem-solving and risk identification.
- Adept at discretion and confidentiality.
- An expert in written and verbal communication skills.
- Both detail oriented and skilled in seeing the bigger picture including broader impacts of local decisions.
- Experienced with multi-state programs.
- An expert in legal interpretation and possess knowledge of local state and federal regulations such as OSHA and EPA.
- Able to travel up to 15% of the time.
You Have:
- 7 years of experience in an employee safety health and environmental role including experience with workers compensation.
- Experience in retail or hospitality is preferred.
- Strong understanding of current federal state and local regulations and compliance areas.
- Deep knowledge in core safety health and environmental functions including workers compensation.
- Experience working in a high-growth environment on a team supporting employees distributed across the U.S.
- Demonstrated success in developing drafting and updating SHE policies.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Cafes Production Operations and People.
- Last but not least a deep love for great coffee food and exceptional customer experience.

This position has a salary range of $120000-$150000. This salary range is a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors which include a candidates qualifications and experience where appropriate.
