Description

The Assistant Director assists in monitoring the daily operations of the department operations including staff supervision retention budgetary oversight materials management and data management. The Assistant Director develops and implements departmental policies and procedures.



Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the Operations and Project Management teams to ensure quality and timely management of all infrastructure administrative and research needs for the overall Department.
  • Act as the Designated Safety officer by providing oversight to the department regarding general safety in the laboratories. Maintain familiarity with the contents of the Chemical Hygiene Plan template and assist Faculty and their designated laboratory safety officers with fulfilling the requirements of the Chemical Hygiene Plan and the FDNY (Certificate of Fitness-C14). Ensure strong communication channels are established within the organization to create awareness and clarity on goals priorities and progress and to other stakeholders as needed.
  • Train new Faculty (PIs) to establish labs contracts with vendors for equipment chemical limits EHS procedures training etc.
  • Manage hazmat DOT IATA biological shipping training and process.
  • Manage SECTOR (on-line EHS system) for the department; ensure users are trained have accounts setup follow-up on audits complete laboratory rosters etc.
  • Perform Safety Rounds and Direct Operations Team on all work order requests tracking supply orders equipment repairs and liaise with ancillary support services and vendors.
  • Manage and oversee all Space and facilities needs for the department inclusive of all space moves relocation of staff and new hires tracking and Deans office metrics and direct contact with vendors and Building Services.
  • Act as the liaison between the department and Environmental Health & Safety Engineering Building Services Security and the Deans Office. Communicate to the department institutional policies and procedures as recommended by the central Mount Sinai Offices.

  • Create and submit Capital Improvement Plans for renovations. Act as primary contact for Project Managers.



Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration Public Administration or related field; Masters Degree preferred.
  • 5 years minimum experience preferably in a health care setting

Certifications preferred in:

  • Dangerous Goods/Dry Ice Shipping Certificate
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS 100 course) and Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response (ICS 200 course) certification.
