About the Role

The Senior Social Work Practitioner plays a crucial role within the legal sector providing expert social work services to clients involved in legal proceedings. This position requires a deep understanding of social work principles and legal frameworks ensuring that clients receive the necessary support and advocacy throughout their legal journey. The Senior Practitioner will collaborate with legal professionals and other stakeholders to promote the welfare of clients making a significant impact on their lives and the community. This role supports a geographically dispersed organisation and requires coordination across multiple office locations in Darwin Katherine and Nhulunbuy including travel between these offices as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients social emotional and environmental needs.
  • Develop and implement tailored intervention plans in collaboration with clients and legal teams.
  • Provide expert advice and support to legal professionals regarding social work issues.
  • Advocate for clients rights and needs within the legal system.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss client cases and strategies.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and best practices in social work and legal contexts.
  • Supervise and mentor junior social work practitioners and students.
  • Travel across the NT as required.

Qualifications:

  • A recognised degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. AASW in Australia).
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in social work preferably within a legal context.
  • Strong understanding of legal frameworks and their implications for social work practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
