Job Summary

Work Schedule: 1.0 FTE Continuing Position - 7.50 hours per day - 180-daybase contract per year (Monday - Friday)

Position Summary:

This position will provide sustained support and guidance for beginning teachers within the Marysville School District by working with the Director of Student Success and Assessment and the Stakeholders to implement grant assurances and guidelines from OSPI and the Marysville School District for Beginning Educator Support Teams serving 1st-3rd year educators.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching certificate required
  • A minimum of ten years successful teaching experience.
  • A strong commitment to the teaching profession.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to be a positive role model for other teachers.
  • Willingness to receive training to improve mentoring skills.
  • Upon hiring attend OSPI Mentor 101 and 201 trainings
  • Experience and/or training with cultural ethnic and language diversity preferred
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

Essential Job Functions:

  • Meet regularly with mentees to facilitate intentional conversations focused on student learning
  • Provide mentoring cycles with written feedback as expected for the OSPI grant mentor program and the Marysville School District
  • Ability to establish and maintain confidentiality with the mentee
  • Support beginning educators in making connections among standards curriculum instruction and assessment systems
  • Assist new teachers in understanding and utilizing CEL5D instructional framework and the TPEP evaluation process
  • Provide emotional and other support to help address new teacher burnout and disillusionment
  • Participate in professional growth monthly professional development and facilitate professional growth meetings with mentees
  • Ensure new teachers have ongoing coaching cycles around:
    • Lesson Design
    • Student Engagement
    • Equitable Practices
    • Classroom Management
    • Scaffolding
    • Differentiation
    • Transitions
    • Cultural awareness in the classroom
    • Communication with families
  • Collaborating with staff members
  • Provide collaboration and attend District Onboarding for BEST teachers and monthly professional learning timely topics
  • Provide weekly and consistent contact with each teacher
  • Attend monthly Round Table OSPI Regional professional collaboration
  • OSPI requires BEST Mentor Academy Trainings-101-parts 1-3 201
  • Participate with MSD BEST team in the OSPI Annual Spring Symposium

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop crouch crawl bend kneel stand for periods of time and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.

Evaluation:

This position shall be evaluated periodically by the Director of Student Success and Assessment pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employees performance of the above essential job functions.
