Under limited supervision this position serves as a Waiver Case Management Specialist (WCMS) providing case management functions including those related to waiver service utilization coordination of case management provider transfers as requested assisting with the residential habilitation referral and admissions process and promoting person centered thinking practices.
  • Conducts a monthly review of assigned Waiver enrolled individuals to ensure at least two waiver services are being utilized on a monthly basis.
  • Completes monitoring of the Residential Needs List and provides case management consultation on challenging cases by reviewing case history
    researching potential resources to meet needs and working with the case manager to implement supports meeting identified needs.
  • Monitors and addresses service authorization issues for waiver participants statewide. Makes necessary corrections when the case manager is not
    immediately available.
  • Provides case management services for assigned cases and documents activities as required and provides requested updates to supervisor.
  • Serves as the Appointed Representative to assist assigned individuals with applying for Social Security (SSI/SSDI) benefits.
  • Performs other case management functions as assigned and meets division expectations.

The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) plans develops coordinates and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe lifelong disabilities of:
  • intellectual disability and related disabilities
  • autism spectrum disorder
  • traumatic brain injury
  • spinal cord injury and similar disability


This position is located at the BHDD Central Office in Cayce SC.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and at least one year of experience working with the target population including experience in the OIDD service delivery system.

Preferred Qualifications

A masters degree from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of inter-agency case management principles and practices and must be familiar with the populations served by OIDD (individuals with intellectual disabilities related disabilities brain injury spinal cord injury and similar disabilities) as well as available services/supports. Knowledge of Medicaid State Plan and OIDD operated HCB Waiver services is required. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively as well as computer literacy. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Immunization:
If this position requires the applicant to work directly with consumers of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities tuberculosis (TB) skin or blood testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles mumps rubella pertussis Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan:
In accordance with the States Disaster Plan which includes hazardous weather employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
