POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Genuine interest in animal welfare
Emotional resilience to handle difficult or stressful situations
Intermediate to advanced level of office software proficiency in MS Word Excel Internet Google Docs and databases
Animal handling experience; including ability or willingness to work with feral and under socialized animals
Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
Proven track record of being able to cultivate positive working relationships
Personable with the ability to develop a positive rapport with stakeholders
Must be able to work Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Support day-to-day administrative tasks for the volunteer program including maintaining and updating volunteer profiles
Update and manage volunteer activities to ensure information is accurate and current
Process new volunteer applications and support onboarding processes
Assist the Supervisor in coordinating and overseeing Helping Paws group programming
Provide logistical and communication support for group activities and events
Support the screening of foster home applications as needed in alignment with program guidelines
Work with shelter staff and caregivers to ensure animals are cared for by AARCS standards and ensure their ongoing well-being and quality of life
Lead shelter shifts including delegating responsibilities and facilitating shift huddles
Assist with cleaning feeding and general animal husbandry for all animal species
Administer medication to shelter animals as prescribed by AARCS Veterinary Hospital
Monitor animal health and behavior documenting and communicating concerns to the veterinary team
Maintain shelter cleanliness including but not limited to; cleaning crates washing dishes doing laundry washing the floor and participating in deep cleans
Accurately record animal care activities notes and observations in shelter management software (Pet Point)
Provide and maintain appropriate housing and enrichment for animals ensuring their comfort safety and mental stimulation
Collaborate with the Animal Care Team to ensure supplies are stocked at all times
Assist with shelter intake foster home discharges and supply requests as needed
Other tasks as assigned
Education:
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent (or working towards it)
CONSIDERED AN ASSET
Previous kennel or animal care experience
Customer service experience
Valid Drivers License
Details:
Term: 16 weeks
Shifts: Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Start Date: Immediately
