GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Join the Wyoming Game and Fish Department as a Damage/Urban Wildlife Technician in Cheyenne and be part of the front line of human-wildlife conflict management. This exciting and engaging role offers the opportunity to work directly with wildlife assist with damage control and claim investigations help resolve wildlife conflicts and support positive relationships between the public and Wyomings wildlife resources. Guided by Wyoming statutes Commission regulations and Department policy youll contribute to meaningful conservation work while tackling unique challenges every day in a role that is both interesting and impactful.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


  • Assist regional personnel with wildlife conflict situations in urban and rural settings in an appropriate manner.
  • Humanely euthanize sick and injuredwildlife.
  • Assist game wardens in mitigating and evaluating damages by big game game birds and trophy game animals to crops and livestock.
  • Routinely communicates with landowners experiencing wildlifedamage.
  • Live trap and relocate black bears mountain lions and other wildlife.
  • Communicate with homeowners and provide information regarding wildlife conflict situations.
  • Assist with the collection and submission of biological data during wildlife and habitatsurveys.
  • Assist the Department with aerial wildlife surveys both from fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
  • Provide Department outreach information and assistance to thepublic.
  • Collect lymph nodes from harvested deer elk and moose for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance efforts.
  • Collect and record wildlife harvest information (i.e. species age and sex of harvested animals and harvest location).
  • Maintain equipment asdirected.
  • Provide Department outreach information and assistance to the public.

Qualifications



PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference may be given to those with a four-year college degree in wildlife management range management or other natural resource fields. Other related training and experience will be evaluated.
Preference will be given to those individuals with field experience specifically safely operating vehicles (ATVs UTVs snowmobiles 4-wheel drive trucks and trailers) horseback and on foot in remote locations and under extreme weather conditions.
Preference will be given to those individuals with experience in firearm proficiency and the lethal removal of wildlife.

**Agency requires that the successful applicant possess a valid drivers license



KNOWLEDGE:


  • Skill in the safe use of handguns shotguns rifles and pyrotechnical devices.
  • Skill in interpersonal communication with employees landowners and the generalpublic.
  • Ability to record and manage collected data skill in map-reading and use of GPS.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-directed.
  • Ability to operate a four-wheel-drive truck ATV GPS unit binoculars/spotting scope and pull/back trailer.
  • Ability to drive vehicles in various types of weather terrain andconditions.
  • Ability to use scalpels andforceps.
  • General knowledge of wildlife knowledge of deer/elkanatomy.
  • Knowledge of datarecording.
  • General computer knowledge and skills.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types ofweather.
  • Ability to walk in rough uneven terrain with unstable footing.
  • Ability to work some weekends holidays early mornings and late evenings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Travel and overnight stays may be required

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check prior to appointment.
  • The position is based in Cheyenne WY. Housing is notprovided.
  • 12-month at-will contract position (40 hours perweek). Housing is not provided
