The mission of the Department of Public Safety-Public Safety Services (PSS) is to provide safety services to both the citizens of the state and visitors to the state of Louisiana by upholding and enforcing the laws administering regulatory programs managing records educating the public and managing emergencies both directly and through interaction with other agencies. PSS also strives to act with integrity and professionalism maintaining an environment that is responsive to the needs of our personnel and the community.

Were seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Compliance Program Specialist 1/2/3/4 to join our legal team in the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA). OLA provides legal consultation and representation to the other offices within PSSOffice of the State Fire Marshal Louisiana State Police Office of Motor Vehicles and other boards and commissions. Our Compliance Programs Section (CPS) has the principal responsibility for ensuring that PSS complies with state and federally mandated anti-discrimination laws including Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA); the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) as amended; the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA); the Civil Rights Act of 1991 (CRA) which amended provisions of Title VII; and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008. The CPS Specialist will serve as the principal assistant to the director of our Compliance Programs Section (CPS). The specialist will be responsible for assisting the CPS Director in this effort.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in monitoring compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws and regulations; or in human resources or employment law; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

As a Compliance Program Specialist you will play a key role in monitoring program activities evaluating compliance with applicable laws and policies and supporting the implementation of corrective actions to ensure operational integrity and this role you will:

  • Conduct prompt thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of harassment discrimination retaliation and other workplace misconduct by interviewing witnesses gathering and analyzing evidence assessing credibility and preparing detailed investigative reports.
  • Manage a caseload of multiple and often sensitive investigations while maintaining strict confidentiality and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Review investigative findings to determine compliance with agency policies employment laws and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations including Title VII guidelines.
  • Coordinate and deliver department-wide training on discrimination harassment retaliation and workplace conduct policies.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and management to recommend and implement programs policies and procedures that support compliance with U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) standards and organizational objectives.
  • Assist with responses to EEOC requests and legal proceedings by gathering reviewing and organizing documentation and evidence for agency leadership and legal counsel including the State Attorney Generals Office.
  • Maintain current knowledge of investigative practices employment laws EEOC guidance and relevant court decisions to ensure effective and compliant investigative processes.
  • Maintain and update the central repository for complaints investigations and related case documentation.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Compliance Program Specialist 1 2 3 or 4.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
