The City of Arkansas City is seeking a dependable skilled and self-motivated

Parks & Facilities Maintenance Technician

to support maintenance and repair of City parks facilities and infrastructure with a focus on electrical systems lighting and traffic signal maintenance. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work problem-solving and contributing to safe clean and functional public spaces.

Essential Functions include the following:

Electrical & Traffic Signal Support (Major Focus)

  1. Perform basic electrical maintenance and repairs including lighting systems outlets switches panels (non-licensed work only) and facility electrical components.
  2. Assist with maintenance inspection and repair of traffic signals pedestrian signals signage lighting and related traffic control infrastructure.
  3. Report complex electrical or signal issues requiring licensed or specialized service.

Advanced Maintenance & Technical Operations

  1. Perform skilled maintenance repair and troubleshooting of City parks facilities buildings grounds and related infrastructure.
  2. Diagnose maintenance issues and complete repairs in areas such as carpentry plumbing concrete irrigation and minor construction.
  3. Perform preventive maintenance activities to extend the life and safety of City assets.

Equipment Operation & Asset Care

  1. Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and vehicles including mowers tractors trucks loaders lifts and power tools.
  2. Perform routine inspections servicing and minor repairs of assigned equipment.
  3. Ensure proper use storage and care of City tools and assets.

Facilities Parks & Cemetery Support

  1. Support maintenance and set up for parks facilities programs events and rentals.
  2. Perform cemetery grounds and facility maintenance tasks as assigned.
  3. Assist with seasonal operations including snow removal debris removal and storm response.

Safety Documentation & Coordination

  1. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  2. Maintain basic records related to work performed materials used and equipment maintenance.
  3. Communicate work progress safety concerns and repair needs to the supervisor.

Administrative & Operational Support

  1. Maintain records of work performed materials used and equipment maintenance.
  2. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and promote safe work practices.
  3. Attend required training certifications and safety meetings.
  4. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance facilities maintenance construction electrical maintenance or a related field.
  3. Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
  4. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience of performing basic electrical maintenance or traffic signal support.
  2. Experience with facilities systems lighting irrigation or infrastructure maintenance.

Certifications / Licenses

  1. Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the employer.
  2. Certifications or training related to maintenance trades or equipment operation.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

Technical & Maintenance Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of parks facilities and grounds maintenance practices.
  2. Working knowledge of basic electrical systems and traffic signal components.

Equipment & Safety Skills

  1. Skill in operating and maintaining maintenance equipment and tools safely.
  2. Ability to recognize hazards and follow safety protocols.

Work Planning & Independence

  1. Ability to plan and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  2. Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and recommend solutions.

Communication & Professional Skills

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors coworkers and the public.
  2. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain basic records.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and must be able to hear and understand instructions warnings and safety signals. The position involves frequent physical activity including standing walking bending reaching lifting carrying pushing pulling and repetitive motion while performing groundskeeping maintenance and custodial tasks.

The employee operates hand tools power tools and motorized maintenance equipment safely. Vision abilities required include close vision for tool operation and equipment controls as well as general visual acuity for hazard recognition equipment awareness and interaction with coworkers and the public.

Must meet Level 4 in Department of Labors Dictionary of Titles Heavy Workexerting up to 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally an/or up to 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting and moving of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance.
  • Climbing kneeling bending stooping and working in varied outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat cold rain and snow.
  • Exposure to uneven terrain dust dirt noise and vibration.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • Head hand eye and foot protection as required.
  • Use of hearing respiratory and body protection as needed.
  • Fall protection when working at heights or on elevated equipment.

Equipment Operated:

  • Mowers tractors trucks loaders lifts and hand/power tools.
  • Basic office equipment including computers telephones and radios.
  • Other equipment as assigned for maintenance repair and operational needs.

Must successfully pass a background check drug screen physical exam and essential functions test.


Normal Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri.
