GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Office of State Lands and Investments Wyoming State Forestry Division seeks a Regional Fire Manager in Lander Wyoming. Bring your knowledge skills and experience with you to become a part of the Wyoming State Forestry Division.

A Regional Fire Manager (RFM) is responsible for managing wildland fire incidents on state lands. They work closely with local state and federal fire and emergency management agencies as well as other stakeholders to develop and implement fire management plans and strategies. This may include tasks such as conducting risk assessments preparing fire management plans and overseeing the implementation of fire management activities. The Regional Fire Manager may be responsible for supervising incident management teams and coordinating resources. They are also responsible for overseeing the training and development of fire management personnel and for maintaining accurate records and reporting data to government agencies and other regulatory bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement fire management plans and strategies.
  • Lead and coordinate fire suppression activities on state lands.
  • Coordinate fire suppression on private lands.
  • Supervise and train fire management personnel.
  • Conduct fire danger assessments and make recommendations for fire management strategies.
  • Conduct fire management research and provide recommendations for best practices.
  • Collaborate with other agencies organizations and stakeholders to coordinate fire management activities.
  • Develop and deliver fire management education and outreach programs.
  • Fuels program management - coordinate with district staff counties and partner agencies on fuels program of work.
  • Development plans for staff.
  • Pre-season coordination meetings with local state and federal partners.
  • Coordination of suppression forces when fires are beyond the mutual aid period and assist fire management and district staff with agency representation (AREP) roles.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:

Fireline qualifications:

  • Task Force Leader Incident Commander Type 3 (preferred) Incident Commander Type 4
  • Working towards qualifications: Incident Commander Type 3 Division/Group Supervisor aviation or other incident management qualifications are desirable.
  • The combination of qualifications provides the skill and knowledge to organize manage and develop strategies and tactics to meet fire and land management objectives.


KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of State of Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments procedures and guidelines.
  • Knowledge ofwildland fire management andforestry management methods operation practices and techniques.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Fire Science or Forestry)

Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildland Fire Management or Forestry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildland Fire Suppression Module Leader or equivalent

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license
Must possess and maintain national certification in accordance with NWCG standards PMS 310-1 within one (1) year of the date of hire

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildland Fire Management or Forestry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildland Fire Suppression Module Leader or equivalent

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license
Must possess and maintain national certification in accordance with NWCG standards PMS 310-1 within one (1) year of the date of hire

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Performs arduous physical activity for extended periods and maintains required NWCG 310-1 physical fitness certification
