The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking a statewide Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) Equipment Technician Supervisor to serve as the subject matter expert and lead the strategic oversight of Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO) inventory supporting fleet operations across the agency. TEF delivers reliable vehicles equipment and radio communications essential to maintaining safe efficient and cost-effective transportation services including emergency response snow and ice removal roadway and bridge maintenance construction and disaster this role you will supervise and direct MRO inventory functions within a multi-million-dollar program ensuring the right supplies are available to minimize downtime and sustain 24/7 operational readiness of mission-critical equipment statewide. Our top candidate will demonstrate expertise in inventory and asset management data analysis supply chain optimization and stakeholder coordination with a focus on operational efficiency risk mitigation and continuous improvement.


What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role theEquipment Technician Supervisor will:

  • Direct counsel provide technical guidance inventory control data collection and data integrity.
  • Advise TEF staff statewide on efforts towards an effective MRO supplies management and planning system.
  • Create statewide policies procedures and standards.
  • Regularly drive to attend meetings at vendor and WSDOT locations.
  • Lead the Region Parts Specialists Equipment Technicians/Supervisors and Maintenance Technicians in planning coordinating developing and/or delivering TEF program and cross program training for TEF
  • Research and analyze data to develop maintain and report performance measures related to MRO supplies.
  • Monitor reports to ensure performance measure goals are being achieved throughout the state.
  • Assist region staff with locating parts and perform physical inventory at WSDOT parts rooms in order to visually verify that inventory items are on hand and in correct locations.


Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity the following competencies are required:

Strategic Leadership Policy & Program Management

  • Extensive experience developing implementing and evaluating statewide policies procedures and standards.
  • Experience interpreting and applying Washington State purchasing laws policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently set priorities and drive program outcomes.
  • Experience leading initiatives that influence organizational direction and ensure consistency across a decentralized environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of team.

Technical Expertise Data Analytics & Inventory Management

  • Extensive knowledge of fleet operations equipment maintenance and MRO supply chain and inventory management practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale inventory systems including part cataloging stock optimization and lifecycle management.
  • Proven ability to balance inventory strategies (e.g. just-in-time vs. stocked) to minimize risk and maximize operational readiness.
  • Extensive experience collecting validating and analyzing complex datasets to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Advanced proficiency with enterprise systems (e.g. FEMS or similar) and Microsoft Office tools to develop performance measures reports and forecasts.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure data integrity and translate analysis into actionable insights.

Stakeholder Engagement Training & Operational Excellence

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective relationships with internal staff leadership external partners and vendors.
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making and drive adoption of policies and best practices without direct supervisory authority.
  • Experience designing developing and delivering training programs and leading statewide or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills including technical writing and the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating effective procurement outcomes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement innovation and supporting critical public service delivery.

The following qualifications are also required:

  • A valid drivers license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to travel in and out of state includes overnight stays for up to five (5) consecutive nights.
  • Ability to efficiently manage and complete multiple tasks on a regular basis often in stressful and demanding situations.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Washington State Purchasing Compliance: Proficiency in applying Washington State purchasing rules regulations laws and procurement processes to accurately and efficiently order maintenance and repair parts.
  • Inventory and Parts Room Management: Demonstrated ability to manage parts rooms and maintain accurate tracking of maintenance and repair inventory.
