A Brief Overview
The Trauma Program Coordinator is a registered nurse who works closely with nursing medical staff and other departments to enhance patient outcomes develop and implement quality improvement initiatives and maintain trauma certification requirements. Additionally this role involves tracking and reporting data related to trauma cases educating staff and promoting a collaborative environment that prioritizes patient safety and care.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates Performance Improvement/Patient Safety Program initiatives that are mandated by regulatory requirements and/or promote evidenced based clinical outcomes for the pediatric trauma patient population. Identify analyze track trend report and educate about process and outcomes measures at Childrens Nebraska and the trauma program and assist with identification of improvement opportunities. Monitor clinical processes outcomes and systems issues related to the quality of care provided. Responsible for maintaining tracking system for case reviews system issues audit filters and PI/Peer Review reports in collaboration with trauma team and other service areas to ensure loop closure. Report issues that affect quality practice outcome and costs and work collaboratively with trauma program leadership as needed for resolution. Maintains an environment which supports the application of quality improvement strategies. Under the direction of the Trauma Program Director may be assigned to coordinate participation in benchmarking or regulatory efforts such as the American College of Surgeons (ACS) requirements Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) benchmarking program or other regulatory/accreditation agencies. Coordinate outreach and education activities specific to the trauma patient for healthcare providers at the organization as well as the community and public. Coordinates educational and outreach activities of the trauma program to include Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers and referral hospital education. Develop coordinate and implement education programs related to care and management of trauma patients in conjunction with unit leaders and clinical educators. Coordinate and/or teach new or established education programs including but not limited to: TNCC PTACC Stop the Bleed. Coordinate trauma related continuing education offerings for Childrens Nebraska and the community. Provide trauma population specific education to staff students and internal and external healthcare providers as necessary. Coordinate trauma performance improvement outreach and injury prevention activities specific to the trauma patient for healthcare providers at the organization as well as the community and public. Analyze trauma registry data to identify and prioritize injury strategies based on local trauma registry and epidemiologic data. Partners with hospital staff community groups and agencies public service organizations other healthcare organizations school districts national organizations and other system-based programs to deliver collaborative injury prevention programs to diverse populations. Evaluate the impact of injury prevention activities. Maintain required documentation to ensure compliance with required hospital ACS and state designation standards. Coordinate participate and/or assist with marketing or media related activities to promote a variety of trauma and injury prevention related activities. Coordinate the provision of trauma performance improvement outreach and injury prevention education to patients as well as hospital and community groups.
- Demonstrate personal and professional leadership to achieve organizational and clinical program goals. Serve as a trauma program liaison for program continuity. Identify and implement cost effective strategies to meet quality patient safety or infection prevention requirements. Participate in committees and/or task forces to help implement effective strategies. Organize define and executes projects while managing timeline skills and deliverables. Assist trauma registry staff with data collection and data entry as necessary Write evaluate and provide reports as necessary from the trauma registry to enhance patient care delivery assess improvement opportunities and provide organizational feedback.
- Coordinate planning developing organizing and evaluating trauma and related critical care program policies and procedures. Coordinate development review and update of trauma care policies and procedures related to care of the trauma patient based on evidenced-based clinical guidelines. Ensure policy and procedure are effectively communicated to staff and appropriate areas and ensure that implementation of new and/or changes in policy are carried out in an effective manner. Review selected documentation for compliance and work with emergency department/critical care management to take appropriate action to resolve any identified issues. Coordinate activities required to maintain designation for comprehensive trauma center designation and verification.
- Attend and participate in statewide and regional trauma meetings as directed. Assist Regional Referral Hospitals in obtaining and maintaining their State Trauma designation and act as a resource for education and information on trauma issues relative to those hospitals.

Education Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing Required
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum of three years recent clinical experience in trauma emergency or critical care required. Required
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Nebraska Department of Health and American College of Surgeons Standards preferred

- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint

- TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course Upon Hire Required
