We are seeking a dedicated Parks & Grounds Superintendent to join our Parks and Recreation team at the City of Weston. This role oversees the planning management and quality control of landscaping athletic fields (natural and artificial turf) and custodial services across its Parks & Recreation system. This leadership role works closely with contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure Westons parks remain safe visually exceptional and high-performing for residents and visitors.

Reporting to the Director of Parks and Recreation this position plays a key role in maintaining the Citys high standards through contractor oversight field inspections and program management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations related to landscaping athletic fields (natural & synthetic turf) irrigation systems and custodial servicesacross City parks
  • Manage and monitor contracted vendorsensuring compliance with scope quality standards and timelines
  • Conduct regular inspections of turf conditions landscaping irrigation systems restrooms and concessions areas
  • Plan coordinate and implement programs for grounds maintenance turf management fertilization pesticides application and tree horticulture
  • Develop work orders assign tasks to contractors and track completion and performance
  • Establish schedules priorities and methods to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to standard
  • Prepare reports studies and documentation to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of department budgetsensuring fiscal responsibility
  • Serve as part of the Citys Emergency Management Team including storm response and on-call responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal staff contractors community groups (e.g. sports leagues YMCA) and the public
  • Support special events including those occurring on evenings weekends and holidays

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of landscaping and athletic field management practicesincluding both natural and artificial turf systems
  • Understanding of irrigation systems fertilization pesticide application and arborculture best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and contractors simultaneouslywhile maintaining high quality standards
  • Knowledge of safety practices and occupational hazards related to grounds maintenance and field operations
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectivelyboth verbally and in writingwith a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proficiency with computer systems mobile applications and work order management tools
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings weekends holidays and emergency response situations

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Horticulture Parks & Recreation Management or a related field(or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience in parks landscaping or athletic field management (public or private sector)
  • Valid Florida Drivers License with a good driving record
  • ISA Certified Arborist preferred
  • Required to obtain NIMS ICS (Incident Command Systems) certificationswithin 3 months of hire
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Mobility & Movement:
  • Frequent walking standing climbing bending stooping crawling or kneeling to conduct inspections.
  • Ability to climb ladders scaffolding or unfinished stairways to access roofs attics crawl spaces and other elevated or confined areas.
  • Occasional lifting carrying or moving objects up to2550 pounds(e.g. inspection tools plans or small equipment).
Vision & Hearing:
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans technical documents and observe construction details.
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors workers and the public in noisy environments.
Manual Dexterity:
  • Use of hands and fingers to handle tools operate inspection equipment and use computers/tablets for reporting.
Work Environment:
  • Work performed in both office and field settings.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat cold rain snow) and construction site environments (noise dust uneven terrain).
  • Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
