Your New Role:
Reporting to the Survey Manager the Survey Design Technician is responsible for compiling and processing comprehensive CAD data sets from Architects Civil Engineers Structural Engineers Mechanical Engineers Electrical Engineers and others to produce detailed 2D & 3D Designs for total stations data collectors and machine control equipment in the field. The Survey Design Technician will work alongside Project Teams and our Surveyors to coordinate existing conditions surveys progress calculations design optimization & planning and final as-builts of various scopes of work. The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of Surveying software and technologies demonstrating strong technical expertise and a commitment to precision in all Surveying activities and design.
This full-time permanent role is based in our Arnprior ON office with project sites primarily located between Ottawa and Chalk River and the possibility of travel to additional locations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
While the Survey Design Technician is responsible for a multitude of duties the main functions include:
- Ensure compliance with all Sullivan Policies and Procedures.
- Work closely with the Owner Architects and Engineers to convey designs and revisions to the Construction Team.
- Responsible for adhering to Sullivan design standards and best practices ensuring that all drawings models and submissions are accurate clear and consistent.
- Communicate and illustrate Survey findings with respect to the IFC designs for the Construction Team Owners Engineers Architects and other personnel working on the project.
- Interpret IFC drawing sets and Project Specifications from PDF and CAD formats to support accurate site layout construction planning and execution.
- Create comprehensive 2D & 3D technical designs for total stations data collectors and machine control equipment.
- Review revise and communicate design revisions new site instructions and/or design optimization changes to Construction Team.
- Conduct quality control checks on designs and models prior to dispatching data to the field to ensure they meet project requirements.
- Oversee field logistics and inspections of pre-construction construction and post construction work while serving as a liaison between Subcontractors Consultants and Site Superintendents.
- Create as-built documentation and volume calculations that are consistent with Contract obligations codes and regulations for internal and external submissions.
- Assist in takeoff calculations at time of tender using PDFs and CAD data geological reports Project Specifications and all other associated documents.
- Manage and oversee the completion of required documentation including the daily log safety documentation time sheets labour quantities packing slips and purchases.
- Maintain up to date understanding of industry trends technologies software data processing techniques and best practices.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned as necessary.
Health Safety and Environmental:
- Adheres to all health safety and environmental processes and procedures and regulatory compliance.
- Communicates and enforces safety standards in conjunction with the Health Safety and Environmental Officer.
Quality:
- Adheres to all processes and procedures in the Sullivan Integrated Management System (S-IMS).
- Ensures the quality of produced efforts reflects the Sullivan quality standards core values.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
- 3 years working as a Data Prep Technician or closely related role in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of the construction industry and specifications methods and procedures.
- Must have strong technical understanding of Surveying programs such as AutoCAD Trimble Business Center Trimble Siteworks and Leica iCON software.
- Experience using Cloud-Based Construction Management Platforms such as Trimble WorksManager Trimble WorksOS Propeller/Stratus and/or Leica ConX.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid G-Class Drivers License is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Level II Secret Government clearance.
Your Skills:
- Competent in interpreting Architectural Engineering Survey and Topographic drawings.
- Detail-orientated self-motivated and active teammate who demonstrates initiative and collaboration.
- Able to understand the project schedules and critical path.
- Ability to do estimates for various quantities of materials (i.e. earthworks concrete).
- Strong mathematical problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail especially when creating design models and processing field data.
- Strong written and oral communications skills when communicating to technical and non-technical personnel including Architects Engineers and Project Managers.
- Excellent planning and time management skills especially when working on multiple projects with varying schedules and deadlines.
- Capable of recognizing discrepancies errors infeasible designs and/or changes to Architectural and Engineering drawings with great attention to detail.
- Knowledge in machine control (GCS900 & Earthworks) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge in geomatics is considered an asset.
- In-field experience on construction sites is considered an asset.

Sullivan combines numerous pay and benefit strategies to provide a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package. Any salary range displayed by a job board is an estimate. The salary range for this role is in the range of $69574 - $84568/annum. Placement within the range will be based on the candidates unique qualifications experience skills and internal equity considerations. This may include a Short-Term Incentive bonus comprehensive benefits and wellness programs retirement plan plus matching and career development.
