Engineering Manager (Researcher Pillar)

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to join our Researcher Product Squads. This role will report to the Head of Engineering of our Researcher Pillar and initially work with one squad with a trajectory of taking on anadditionalResearcher Squad within the first year.

Our squads are focused on our community of world class health researchers and work closely with our access governance- and commercial teams to provide researchers with various tools content and support to join the Our Future Health mission and run studies of good quality in our trusted research environment.

The role is not hands on but an engineering background willhelpto effectively mentor & coach engineers guide the squad through technical trade-offdiscussionsand contribute to the broader technical roadmap.

This role will be fully hybrid with the expectation you can come to our Holborn London office a few times per month e.g. for squad leadership and workshop meetings.

• Experience ofmanaging engineers and engineering within cross-functional development teams in a growingorganisation.
• You know how to communicate to and between technical and non-technical stakeholders as well asfacilitatediscussions within a multidisciplinary team including scientists software engineers productmanagersand other data engineers. You know how to manage different perspectives.
• You can listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpretthem andeffectively manage stakeholder expectations. You can support or host difficult discussions within the team or with diverse senior stakeholders.
• Experience ofworking in teams that build & own cloud-hosted applications. Our teams mostly use Ruby on Rails Python and andwereon Azure for our cloud infrastructure. A comparable tech stack is entirely fine for this role.
• Experience working in an Agile development team following best practices including GitHub code review unit tests TDD and CI/CD.
• You haveexperienceline managing and coaching engineers in a successful cross-functional development team.
• You have an understanding and working knowledge of information governance and data security approachesappropriate forsensitive health data.
• Experience in operationally managing software components/service once liveincluding: observability bestpractises logging bestpractises error reporting debugging and live incident management. Experience using tools such as Grafana Prometheus New Relic etc.
