ABOUT SDSN
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic social and environmental challenges confronting the world.
SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies multilateral financing institutions the private sector and civil society. It is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York Paris and Kuala Lumpur.
ABOUT NETWORKS PROGRAM
The Networks program of SDSN launched its first network in 2013 and has experienced continuous growth ever since reaching over 2100-member institutions and 59 networks across 6 continents. SDSNs National and Regional Networks promote the localization and implementation of the SDGs develop long-term transformation pathways provide education for sustainable development and launch Solutions Initiatives to address challenges. Each network focuses on distinct projects and priorities in line with their local contexts and challenges.
POSITION SUMMARY
The SDSN Asia Headquarter (hosted by Sunway University) is seeking a dynamic and talented individual to help develop and manage National and Regional SDSNs and to support their efforts to localize the SDGs. Based out of the Kuala Lumpur office of the SDSN hosted by Sunway University the staff will report to the Senior Network Manager (KL office) and will work closely with the SDSN Global team.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Consolidate the SDSN Network
- Work with several National and Regional SDSNs to support them in establishing their structures recruit members develop and implement ambitious work programs and mobilize resources.
- Build SDSN services for its members and deepen engagement between networks
- Manage budgets associated with activities under their responsibility per the established guidelines of SDSN
- Support the membership drive and strategic expansion of the SDSN
Contribute to SDSNs work and represent the organization
- Assist Senior Managers across SDSN offices in maintaining SDSNs membership platforms and databases (e.g. Mobilize Submittable Airtable) and key publications of the Program (e.g.: Networks in Action guides for universities)
- Prepare background research on the countries/regions of focus.
- Assist in organizing periodic global managers calls facilitate networks team call regularly.
- Support the delivery of project outputs including periodic reporting event management and MOOC development.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration with network/project partners organize events and prepare briefs for various communication channels.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Passion for the mission of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
- Minimum three years combined relevant experience.
- Successful record of project management including the ability to motivate others and the flexibility to respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding English oral and written communication skills. Full proficiency desirable in one or more other languages.
- Demonstrated ability to manage partnerships and client relationships at senior level.
- Advanced degree in economics development natural sciences engineering business or related discipline.
