JOB TITLE: Elementary Assistant Principal | LOCATION: Elementary School |
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal | GRADE/RANK: 2430 (12-month contract) |

SUMMARY:
The elementary assistant principal is responsible for assisting the school principal in the planning organization administration and management of an elementary school. The assistant principal works with the school principal to examine the needs of the entire school and maximize achievement for all students and the school as a whole.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Under the direction of the principal the elementary assistant principal is responsible for assisting with the following:
- Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school;
- Assists with continuous improvement including monitoring of academic discipline and attendance data and development of strategic plans to impact results;
- Assists with creating a safe positive and welcoming environment for students staff families and community members;
- Assists with developing structures and handling school-wide disruptions to learning;
- Assists with supervising and developing staff to promote employee expertise including assisting with professional learning for staff based on need;
- Assists with selection and induction of new personnel and assist with the support evaluation and retention of quality instructional and support personnel;
- Manages and oversees the schools organization operation and use of resources;
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with stakeholders.
- Demonstrates professional standard engages in continuous professional development and stays informed of research pertaining to effective schools;
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and;
- Operates the school in the absence of the school principal.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the current issues principles and practices in public elementary school education and the ability to apply them to the needs of a school. Must possess knowledge and effective skills in curriculum development instructional practices interpretation of test data positive behavior supports and school improvement. Must possess the ability to assist with administering and managing the operation of an elementary school. Must possess the ability to plan and supervise the work of others. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students parents staff and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must hold a Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in Administrative Leadership PreK-12 or equivalent endorsement plus a minimum of three years of teaching experience elementary school level teaching preferred. Experience working in a school with a diverse student population which has successfully addressed achievement challenges is preferred.
