Description of Work

The Horticultural Crops Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II with growth potential for a fulfilling career in the agricultural industry. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient productive and profitable while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products.

Applied field research is conducted on various crops including sweetpotatoes melons tomatoes peppers squash and new and emerging specialty crops. Our ideal candidate will have experience in general horticultural crop production and farm equipment operation.

Key responsibilities include:
Routine tasks such as general grounds maintenance assisting with the layout of research plots planting cultivation spray applications and harvesting.
Operation and maintenance of farm equipment.
Work may include other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $31200 - $49000

  • General understanding of horticultural crop production
  • General understanding of land preparation transplanting cultivating fertilization disease and pest control and harvesting.
  • Ability to operate various tractors and equipment commonly used in a farm environment.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs routinely and perform work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Valid Drivers License

Obtain within twelve months of employment the following:

  • Forklift Driver Certificate
  • Public Pesticide Applicator License

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in the general care and management of animals or crops or laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
