Main Purpose of Job

The NaturalResources Planner I is an entry-level position primarily responsible for providinggeneral and technical support for the Air Monitoring Program within the Air andRadiation Administration. This position maintains a network of pollutionmonitoring equipment to assess the health of the States ambient air resourcesengaging in compliance and research projects of moderate complexity. Work forthis role is divided between the lab at the Maryland Department of theEnvironment Headquarters (Montgomery Park North Building) and various fieldlocations.

Keyresponsibilities but not limited to:

  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain continuous and non-continuous ambient air monitoring equipment including analyzers for particulate matter ozone sulfur dioxide carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide along with their respective calibration systems.
  • Documentation: Prepare hard-copy instrument logs and electronic data summaries for review by QA staff and Field Operation supervisors.
  • Maintenance: Perform regular repairs and maintenance on air monitoring shelters site property and inlet/climate control systems.

Theincumbent in this position will be required to drive a State vehicle.

  • Drivers License:A valid drivers license with no more than five points is required to operate a State vehicle.
  • Out-of-State Licenses:If you hold an out-of-state license you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelors degree from anaccredited college or university in an environmental science or naturalresources planning management or development.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelorsdegree from an accredited college or university in urban or regionalplanning engineering physical geography or the physical chemicalbiological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning orapplied environmental science for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forcesmilitary service experience as a commissioned officer in the generalnatural resources management and biological sciences classifications orgeneral natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes inthe general natural resources management and biological sciences field of workon a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands-on experience or knowledge of the operation maintenance calibration and troubleshooting of continuous and manual-based air monitoring instrumentation specific to PM CO NOx SO2 O3 and the calibration systems for these methods.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with state or federal regulations pertaining to instrument sampling and operation quality control procedures.
  • Knowledge and/or experiencewith evaluating diagnostic information from air monitoring data acquisition systems including pollutant concentrations and instrument operational parameters such as voltages flow rates PMT output and temperatures.
  • Hands-on experience or knowledge of operating maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC systems electrical installations/repairs computer hardware installation/repair or using hand and power tools.
