Job Summary

The USC Gould School of Law seeks to hire an Admissions Counselor for the JD program office. The Admissions and Financial Aid Office is a fast-paced environment which receives over 7000 applications each year and is highly selective enrolling approximately 200 candidates each fall. The most appropriate candidate will be driven to meet and /or exceed objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a contact for prospective and admitted students informing them about the law school and its JD program.

  • Acquire general knowledge of the law school admissions process and be able to clearly articulate the academic program requirements and general policies and procedures of the institution.

  • Manage basic office tasks including but not limited to answering phones and greeting walk-in visitors and serving as primary on each of these tasks when students workers are not available.

  • Serve as the primary staff person responsible for admissions recruitment activities. This includes registering for events creating and updating the shipping spreadsheet and using student workers to carry out shipments as well as updating the shared and public admissions calendars with event information. This also requires administering recruit event surveys and running end-of-cycle reports to gauge the effectiveness of individual recruit events.

  • Coordinate all logistics for out-of-town admitted student/alumni receptions by working with designated points of contact at law firm partners.

  • Maintain inventory of office supplies and ensure supplies are ordered in a timely manner.

  • Assist with processing of admission applications via the LSAC UNITE system.

  • Review admissions applications and make recommendations on applicants.

  • Attend admitted student conversion events and actively participate in the conversion process.

  • Attend fall recruitment events. This will require periodic local and out-of-town travel primarily during the fall months.

  • Continuously stay updated on policies and procedures as provided by the University.

  • Maintain a relevant understanding of regulations associated with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) with regards to distribution of student information and ensuring regulations are followed at all times.

  • Will assist with both final exam administration and proctoring at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters and commencement each year.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.42 - $30.77. When extending an offer of employment the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position the candidates work experience education/training key skills internal peer equity federal state and local laws contractual stipulations grant funding as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelors degree Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 0 - 6 months
Minimum Field of Expertise: Counseling skills and/or academic advisement experience
