GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Responsible for administering the programmatic and day-to-day operations of the CATEC Adult Education programs. Provides coordination and supervision of evening programs and assistance in areas including public relations special projects and job placement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for:
- Works with businesses industry and schools to assess community needs and interests. Recommends courses to meet those needs. Organizes develops schedules and promotes special programs continuing education and related instruction for apprentices;
- Develops advertising and other public relations material for CATEC adult and apprenticeship programs;
- Supervises and evaluates Adult Education and Apprenticeship instructors;
- Enters time for Adult Education Instructors into the time management system;
- Identifies plans and conducts programs to enhance relationships with business and industry;
- Maintains an active working relationship with apprenticeship representatives of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DoLI) to recruit and train apprentices;
- Prepares appropriate permanent records progress reports and attendance reports as required by the DoLI and CATEC;
- Manages department budget and oversees purchasing to include textbooks instructional supplies program equipment and needed consumables;
- Follows division policies and procedures for collecting funds making daily deposits and reconciliation including daily and monthly financial reports;
- Works with outside agencies to renew/certify programs for grants veteran benefits and financial aid eligibility;
- Manages program compliance and program renewal reviews for Apprenticeship programs and other programs as needed.
- Maintains programmatic and administrative systems to ensure accurate and timely data reporting in all areas;
- Recruits and recommends apprenticeship instructors who are qualified to teach the appropriate related instruction that is consistent with job experiences;
- Recruits Adult Education instructors;
- Provides career counseling services to adults and apprentices where appropriate regarding their program of study;
- Coordinates recruitment efforts with apprenticeship representatives of DoLI;
- Assists in preparing the annual plan and accountability report for apprenticeship-related instruction as required by the DoLI;
- Certifies completion of related instruction of all apprentices who satisfactorily complete their program of study as required by DLI;
- Seeks to expand Adult Education classes and offerings;
- Makes periodic visits to on-site and off-site classes for the purpose of evaluating curriculum and instruction; Supervises and assists in the development of course syllabi for adult and apprenticeship classes;
- Secures develops and/or refines curriculum for adult and apprenticeship programs;
- Conducts appropriate training sessions for part-time evening instructors to improve teaching skills;
- Observes instruction needed to maintain appropriateness quality and consistency;
- Serves as liaison between local private and public businesses Human Resources offices and students seeking job opportunities;
- Makes recommendations to the Principal;
- Performs related/required duties as assigned by the Principal.
Hours 11:00 AM 9:30 PM Monday through Thursday and sometimes on Fridays. Hours shift to daytime when Adult Education classes are not in session.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of a Bachelors degree or equivalent certifications and experience in business marketing or education. Experience in community or adult education and in workforce development is required. Valid teaching license in Career and Technical Education and/or Administration is preferred.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK
Work is typically performed in an office setting primarily sitting at office equipment and files. Frequent walking standing light lifting up to 40 pounds and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel to business sites throughout the County and occasional state-wide or regional travel is required. Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours is often required. Usually there is a need to motivate establish rapport gain support persuade or influence individuals or groups. Contacts often require tact and discretion. Occasional contact with state and federal agencies is required. Contact with advisory councils faculties students parents and the general public is required.
EVALUATION
Will be evaluated annually by the Principal.
