Job Title: Music Teacher
Reports to: Building Principal
Basic Function: Helps students grow in their enjoyment appreciation and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences that include: singing moving to music playing instruments creating and listening. Promote the overall mission of the school system and work to maximize the educational opportunities available to each student.
Essential Functions:
- Teach skills in music appreciation harmony and explorations in music
- Sing or play instrument to demonstrate musical scales tones and rhythm.
- Plan a balanced music program and organize daily classroom work based on teaching outline prepared for course of study to meet curriculum requirements and so that preparation rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Evaluate each students musical growth and performance assessing each individuals contribution to the performance of the group.
- Use repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
- Cooperate with the school administration in providing musical programs.
- Plan rehearse direct and coach pupils in their individual parts in fundamentals of musicianship and ensemble performance.
- Establish and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly productive environment during practice group rehearsals and musical performances.
- Critique performance to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Select and requisition books musical instruments and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records. Order store and inventory musical instruments music and supplies.
- Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
- Maintain professional competence through professional learning provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
- Gather data evaluate and participate in a Professional Learning Community that works together to ensure students success.
Specifications/Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree required
- Valid Iowa Teaching License
- License Endorsement: K-8 Music
- Mandatory Reporter: Child and Adult Dependent Abuse certification
- Background Check

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck or truck more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0-12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet such as curriculum materials desks chairs and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers written materials reports assessment data etc.

Noise level is quiet to loud. Work may be indoors and/or outdoors. Work may be in non-air conditioned rooms. Tobacco and alcohol-free environment. Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students staff or the public. This position will require some evening responsibilities. Direct responsibility for the safety well-being and work output of students.
