Peckham Inc. Material Handler I
SUMMARY
The Material Handler Level I supports the movement staging and handling of materials across either Operations (pre-production cutting spreading production support) or Supply Chain (inbound outbound warehouse). Employees are assigned to one primary area and are only responsible for duties within that assignment.
This position performs basic receiving stocking scanning and material delivery while maintaining safety accuracy and clean work practices. A forklift license may be required depending on assignment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Move materials using pallet jacks carts or forklifts (if certified)
- Use handheld scanners and basic computer systems for material tracking
- Stage stock and organize materials in assigned areas
- Maintain 5S standards cleanliness and safe work practices
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors
- Verify counts labels and basic documentation
- Assist with maintaining equipment cleanliness and safe use
- Participate in safety and ergonomic programs
- Other related duties as assigned
IF ASSIGNED TO OPERATIONS:
- Deliver materials cut parts bundles or components to production areas
- Assist with bin movement and workstation replenishment
- Support cut-part organization using simple labeling/tracking
- Follow FIFO or inventory rotation processes
- Report shortages or material issues
- Assist with maintaining organization in cut-parts or pre-production areas
IF ASSIGNED TO SUPPLY CHAIN:
- INBOUND RECEIVING:
- Unload trucks with fabric rolls pallets or cartons
- Verify packing slips and report discrepancies
- Move inbound pallets or bins to designated locations
- Use handheld scanners to receive fabric components and goods
- Maintain warehouse equipment and follow basic safety checks
- OUTBOUND SHIPPING:
- Move finished-goods pallets to outbound staging lanes
- Load trucks safely using forklifts and pallet jacks (if certified)
- Assist with pallet consolidation wrapping and staging
- Verify counts and label placement
- Support outbound scanning or RFID validation under direction
- Report shipping discrepancies promptly
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 18 years of age
- Forklift license required only for assignments that use forklifts
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely
- Basic math and reading skills for labels and counts
- Reliability accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous warehouse or production experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing and walking for long periods
- Lifting 40lbs frequently; up to 100lbs occasionally (team lift allowed)
- Bending twisting and repetitive motion required
- Use of pallet jacks carts or forklifts depending on assignment

While carrying out the responsibilities of this position the employee will regularly need to stand walk and use their hands for handling or feeling objects. Strong communication skills are essential. Asking questions and expressing concerns is critical to success. Person must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally (team lift allowed).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment may include warehouse floors cutting rooms pre-production areas or production areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as there is some moving mechanical equipment.
