Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site which would have a storage capacity of 250000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Marine Structures Engineer is an integral part of Woodfibre LNGs dynamic team. Your role would involve providing knowledge experience and methodology reviews of various aspects of activities related to LNG marine facilities such as pile drilling pile installation substructure installation modules installation and floating storage tank connections. Your responsibilities would encompass near shore installation phases of the projects. The successful candidate reports directly to the Project Manager Offshore and you will play an essential part in supporting the companys senior management team through the construction commissioning and startup phases of the marine works.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will:

  • Review comprehensive plans for marine installation including tracking resources and schedule durations. Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to set project objectives and define project scope.
  • Review installation design and technical documentation for marine facilities.
  • Ensure that all construction activities adhere to relevant safety environmental and BC regulatory standards set by local and international governing bodies.
  • Collaborate with Contractor and Subcontractors to review vendors and equipment submittals. Oversee the quality and delivery of equipment materials and services from suppliers.
  • Supervise the installation phase of the project ensuring that construction activities align with the approved designs procedures schedules and safety protocols. Address any issues or challenges that arise during construction.
  • Review schedule through the efficient use of all construction resources including manpower materials tools and equipment.
  • Provide input for the development of project schedules in cooperation with the contractors.
  • Monitor productivity and implement appropriate action to maintain maximum labor productivity and cost-effectiveness.
  • Adhere to quality control procedures to ensure that all works meet the required standards and specifications. Interface with quality team to verify compliance.
  • Participate in QA audits and completion inspections with QA Team when required.
  • Identify potential risks throughout the project lifecycle and support development of risk mitigation strategies to minimize negative impacts on the project.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the project ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices to protect personnel the environment and assets.

Requirements

Required Experience:

  • A degree in Marine Engineering Mechanical Engineering Civil Engineering or relevant field experience.
  • Minimum of 20 years field experience of which a minimum of 5-10 years experience in BC Marine Construction.
  • Heavy focus on relevant experience in the project construction execution phase with an emphasis on the placement of jackets platforms and related structural components in a marine environment and their connections.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with welding procedures and codes in relation to marine structures and environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of QA processes and standards in marine environments
  • Familiarity with relevant British Columbia industry structural standards and codes.
  • Familiarity with near shore marine facility construction processes and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with environmental marine construction processes and protocols.
  • Proficiency in reading method statements and interpreting engineering drawings project plans and weld procedures.
  • Experience dealing with consultants contractors and other relevant third parties in marine contractor oversight.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/people skills interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.
  • Accepts responsibility and demonstrates a commitment to the delivery of tasks and targets.
  • Excellent quality written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to undertake strategic planning and implementation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure manage multiple tasks and change priorities within tight time limits.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience with a variety of computer programs such as Office 365 MS Teams DocuSign Adobe Acrobat etc.
  • Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks.
  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
  • Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • The position is based in Squamish BC (Project Site).
