Electricity Instructor
Valley Career & Technical Center
VCTC is seeking a full-time Electricity Instructor. We are looking for an energetic enthusiastic person interested in sharing their knowledge and experience in Electricity and/or related areas to prepare the next generation of highly trained employees.
EDUCATIONAL and PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess or willing to obtain a valid Virginia Technical Professional license in the specified subject area.
- Demonstrate the ability to instruct evaluate and supervise high school students in all phases of the electrical field. Last work experience must be no older than 2 years from current time.
- Documented a minimum of five (5) years experience or 4000 hours of work experience in the electrical or related field.
- Must be knowledgeable of environmental technology (EPA and OSHA) and proper use of PPE
- Possession of a Journeymans certification is required/; possession of Masters certification is preferred.
- Demonstrate evidence of the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with high school students parents business and industry representatives and school administration or related field.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
- Basic knowledge of how to use NEC Electric Code
- Demonstrated ability to properly use hand and power tools.
- Proven experience and ability to demonstrate electrical theory and practical application
- Proven experience in installing wiring receptacles switches light fixtures panel boxes residential branch circuits and service panels commercial wiring and conduit bending.
- Ability to identify and repair faulty circuits motors and electrical components.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and practices.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises student conduct to ensure that the potentially hazardous shops/labs/classrooms provide an orderly environment conducive to productivity;
- Maintain a well-organized safe and clean shop and/or classroom;
- Advises students of the importance of safety in relation to tools ladders and other job-related equipment;
- Builds strong relationships with students;
- Demonstrates a continued willingness to learn and apply new skills based on current research and best practices;
- Uses appropriate instructional strategies to promote student learning;
- Uses comprehensive materials technology and resources to promote the development of critical thinking problem solving and performance skills;
- Maintains an inventory of equipment controls storage repair and usage of materials in order to minimize loss or abuse.
- Keeps in contact with business and industry so that the curriculum can be updated to reflect changes in high-tech society.
