Job Description
Reporting to the Director Internal Audit the Manager Internal Audit will play a key role in demonstrating value and partnering with the business by providing risk-based assurance and advisory services. This position will have broad exposure to the operations of Extendicare interacting with key stakeholders across the operations and the shared service functions (finance IT HR legal and communications) as well as with our external auditors and advisors. This individual must possess the skills to understand business strategic priorities processes enterprise risk assessment and recommend best practices and process improvements. Research communication and collaboration skills will be instrumental to the success of this role. Other success factors for this role include working in a fast-paced and changing environment being resourceful taking ownership and exhibiting curiosity.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham Ontario and offers a hybrid working environment.
Key responsibilities:
Lead and execute internal audit engagements including planning fieldwork and reporting in accordance with the IIA Standards and evolving best practices.
Identify and assess key and emerging organizational risks to update the risk-based audit plan.
Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management processes and controls and recommend opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with the business to update relevant process documents.
Build strong relationships across the organization as a value-added business partner.
Support the implementation of the Internal Audit roadmap which will include increased use of data analytics and technology as Extendicare continues its evolution of our major ERP applications to an integrated cloud-based platform including leading platforms such as Workday Okta ServiceNow.
Collaborate closely with the Quality ERM and Risk and Claims teams within Extendicare to develop synergies in risk identification monitoring response issue management and reporting as appropriate.
Support investigating control deficiencies assessing severity providing recommendations to address root causes and communicating findings.
Develop and provide relevant training to strengthen the control environment as applicable.
Stay current with the latest standards regulations and data analytics/AI technology to ensure continuous improvement of assurance and advisory engagements and methodologies.
What were looking for:
5 years of experience in a related role including experience in a public company environment strongly preferred.
Related certifications (CPA CIA or equivalent).
Comprehensive understanding of multiple disciplines (internal controls enterprise risk management assurance and advisory services and regulatory compliance).
Experience with data analytics/AI tools for internal audit would be an asset.
Familiarity with COSO Internal Control framework and NI 52-109 regulation.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and experience with large ERP platforms (experience with Workday Okta ServiceNow would be an asset).
Experience in health care and/or highly regulated industries would be an asset.
Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication.
Excellent time management organizational and multitasking abilities with a flexible approach to changing business needs.
Strong interpersonal networking and collaboration skills to engage stakeholders across various functions.
