Job Summary:
TheWellness Center Concierge works in conjunction with the Wellness Manager to provide quality wellness recreational and instructional activities within the Ben Cleveland Wellness Center. The focus of this position is to create a positive and energetic environment with high levels of customer service for all patrons of the Wellness Center. Hours for this position are Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Position Duties:
- Monitor Wellness Center including overall health safety and security of the facility its patrons and equipment.
- Understand the features and benefits of the Wellness Center and proactively assist patrons.
- Be approachable encouraging informative and motivating for all persons using the Center. Create a non-intimidating environment where members feel safe and supported.
- Provide availability to new and current members to perform equipment orientations as well as consultations on the proper use of features within the facility. Demonstrate the usage of any item as a means to provide comprehensive instruction.
- Adhere to all standard operating procedures.
- Maintain a functional work area at the welcome desk and take responsibility for all documents.
- Promote membership sales and handle all transactions dutifully.
- Learn review and follow emergency procedures. Assist in emergencies by following appropriate emergency procedures.
- Keep facility clean organized and neat. Disinfect all equipment routinely. Keep free weights in allocated locations.
- Ensure facility patrons comply with proper use and care of equipment safety rules and regulations.
- Assure that all equipment is in proper working order sanitized and maintained on a regular basis.
- Report safety concerns to Wellness Center Manager and Campus Security if needed.
- Oversee and maintain patron/student records in computerized database and filing system.
- Supervise Wellness Center programs as directed by the Wellness Manager.
- Assume responsibility for all laundry including sweat towels cleaning rags and laundry detergent.
- Responsible for general upkeep of the Wellness Center and communicating with the Wellness Manager on a regular basis.
- Maintain courteous professional and effective working relationships with employees Work Studies vendors and/or any other representatives of external organizations.
- Provide leadership to Work Studies by creating and maintaining professional and positive relationships with them.
- Comply with all College policies and procedures.
- Assist the Wellness Manager by performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to build a positive rapport with all Wellness Center patrons.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students employees and the general public.
- Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
- Working knowledge of Wellness Center equipment and proper use.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Comfortable educating patrons at various fitness levels.
- Ability to work independently as well as a proactive teammate.
- Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
- Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations.
- Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.
Required Education Background:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience:
- Customer service or related experience.
- Experience in health and fitness programs.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend stoop kneel crouch and/or crawl; reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to do occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels; ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations in training sessions and other meetings.
Work Environment:
Work performed in a wellness facility with a variety of fitness machines. Some work performed in an office environment.
