Job Summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The NYC Department of Correction (DOC) is dedicated to enhancing the safety and health of individuals living and working in NYC correctional facilities. The Office of Policy and Compliance (OPC) plays a critical role by conducting audits and reviews of Department operations to ensure adherence to established policies including the Nunez Consent Decree a significant oversight mechanism for jail operations.

The Office of Policy and Compliance (OPC) seeks a motivated graduate student intern who possesses exceptional communication skills critical thinking abilities and a genuine enthusiasm for public service. This internship offers a unique opportunity to assist the executive staff of the Office of Management Analysis and Planning with a diverse range of projects involving research analysis and administrative tasks.

-Assist in conducting audits and evaluations to improve safety and compliance within NYC correctional facilities.
-Support the development of reports presentations and other documentation relevant to ongoing projects.
-Conduct research and data analysis related to departmental policies and compliance measures.
-Collaborate with team members to identify areas for improvement and contribute to strategic planning efforts.
-Participate in meetings and assist in preparing agendas and minutes.
-Perform various administrative tasks as needed to support the offices initiatives.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
