Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Steel / Pipe Spool Estimatorto join our team at our Head Office in Coquitlam BC. This role is responsible for preparing accurate competitive cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and pipe spooling projects.
The Structural Steel / Pipe Spool Estimatorwill review contract documents perform quantity takeoffs evaluate labour and material requirements solicit supplier and subcontractor pricing and support bid submissions. This role works closely with project managers engineers and production teams to ensure estimates accurately reflect fabrication and project costs.
Responsibilities:
Review structural steel and pipe spool drawings specifications and tender documents to determine project scope and requirements
Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for materials labour equipment and subcontractors based on contract documents and specifications
Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel piping systems and related components
Collaborate with the fabrication shop to assess current capabilities capacity and production constraints
Support Design-Build teams as required throughout project development
Solicit evaluate and negotiate pricing from vendors and subcontractors
Maintain and update cost databases pricing structures and historical cost data
Provide material and labour takeoffs for site instructions (SIs) on active projects
Identify and resolve cost discrepancies through analysis and collaboration
Prepare reports summarizing cost data trends and estimate breakdowns
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients suppliers and subcontractors
Ensure compliance with company standards safety regulations and industry best practices (including WorkSafeBC)
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and team success
Maintain industry knowledge through continuous learning and professional development
Qualifications:
3-7 years of structural steel/pipe fabrication estimating experience.
Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology Construction Management Structural Engineering an asset.
Equivalent industry experience in structural steel/pipe fabrication estimating considered.
Proficiency in estimating and modeling software including Bluebeam Revu PlanSwift / OST Tekla Structures AutoCAD / Plant 3D and Navisworks
Experience with project and data tools such as: MS Excel MS Project and ERP systems (SAP Epicor) along with ability to quickly learn new applications.
Ability to read and interpret plans and technical specifications.
Ability to manage vendor relationships and performance.
Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations.
Able to interact and communicate effectively both written and oral.
Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
Ability to multitask and prioritize.
