Estimator
Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for Transmission projects. This includes evaluating the full scope of work such as labour equipment materials subcontractor services and purchased components. The role ensures all tender submissions are completed accurately and delivered within required deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating and Tendering
Develop conceptual preliminary and detailed cost estimates for transmission projects including overhead and underground lines substations and asset replacement or upgrade programs
Review engineering drawings technical specifications standards and scopes of work to support estimate development
Complete detailed quantity take-offs and determine labour equipment and material requirements
Identify estimating assumptions cost drivers risks and uncertainties including development of escalation and contingency allowances
Collaborate with Engineering and Construction to assess constructability sequencing and execution strategies
Support capital budget development business case preparation and Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) filings
Review contractor estimates tender submissions and change orders for scope completeness and cost reasonableness
Cost Analysis and Project Support
Analyze and price potential scope changes change orders and claims.
Monitor ongoing projects and provide cost tracking forecasting and financial evaluations.
Offer technical and estimating support to field and project teams as needed.
Assist in developing preliminary project schedules for transition to project execution teams.
Collaboration Process Improvement and Leadership
Communicate effectively with field personnel project teams and clients.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of estimating processes procedures and standards.
Participate in additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree or diploma in Engineering Engineering Technology (or a related field) preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role.
Experience working with industry-standard estimating or bidding software.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings specifications and contract documents.
Familiarity with municipal transportation or infrastructure construction projects is an asset.
Knowledge of relevant construction standards and specifications is preferred.
