JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
We are searching for a motivated graduating senior who will be entering a Penn State engineering graduate program in Fall 2026 to join CIMP 3D at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State.
This summer internship will concentrate on advancing technologies related to additive manufacturing (AM).
The student will support:
Design-for-Additive-Manufacturing
FEA analysis
In situ process sensing and monitoring during AM builds
Data analysis and modeling using artificial intelligence
Students majoring in the following fields are encouraged to apply:
Mechanical Engineering
Related engineering disciplines
Interest Skills/Experience areas include:
Experience or coursework in additive manufacturing processes
Familiarity with FEA tools
Interest in data analysis AI/ML or sensor data processing
Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary research environments
Strong academic record and demonstrated initiative as a self starter
You may also be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility if required.
You will work up to 40 hours/week on-site in various laboratories around State College throughout the summer.
This is a paid internship opportunity and the location will be fully on-site located in State College PA.

ARLs purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific engineering and technology problems in support of the Navy the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intel Community (IC). For further information on ARL visit .
