Vast is looking for a Fabrication & Tooling Specialist Special Projectsreporting to the Production Manager Structures to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

This will be a full-timeexempt position located in ourLong Beachlocation.

Responsibilities:

• Design fabricate and modify tools fixtures jigs and other manufacturing aids to support a variety of special projects across mechanical assembly and structural integration
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Manufacturing and cross-functional engineering teams to understand build requirements and translate them into practical tooling solutions
• Support prototype and R&D builds from early concept through completion adapting tooling approaches as designs evolve
• Operate manual and CNC machine tools including mills lathes grinders and other shop equipment with a high degree of accuracy and craftsmanship
• Read and interpret engineering drawings GD&T callouts CAD models and technical specifications to produce tooling that meets tight tolerances
• Troubleshoot tooling and fixturing issues on the fly and propose effective timely solutions
• Maintain repair and organize tooling inventory and shop equipment
• Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes tooling efficiency and build quality
• Work safely and maintain a clean organized work environment in accordance with company safety standards

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Toolmaker Machinist and Welder or similar hands-on fabrication role
• Background in an R&D prototype or low-volume production environment you are comfortable working with incomplete information and evolving requirements
• Strong proficiency with manual and/or CNC machining equipment
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings GD&T and 3D CAD models
• High mechanical aptitude and a meticulous eye for quality and precision
• Self-starter mentality able to take on loosely defined tasks and drive them to completion with minimal supervision
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing team

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience in aerospace defense or other highly regulated industries
• Familiarity with a broad range of materials including aluminum titanium stainless steel and composites
• Exposure to assembly tooling for large-scale or complex structural builds
• Experience with CAM software and/or basic CAD modeling (SolidWorks CATIA or similar)
• Understanding of manufacturing quality systems and documentation practice

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to stand kneel and bend for extended periods in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
• Comfortable working in and around large-scale hardware and manufacturing equipment

Pay Range:

• Tooling and Fixture Specialist I: $38 - $54
• Tooling and Fixture Specialist II: $42 - $59
