Summary:

Watertown Public Schools seeks outstanding applicants for the position of ArmenianTeacher. It is a part-time position at Watertown High School.

Working under the general supervision of the K-12 World Language Coordinator as well as building administration the successful candidate will plan and teach Armenian classes. They will work collaboratively with members of the department and the school to support student learning and growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The preferred candidate will be prepared to teach Armenian andshould be engaging and provide rigorous instruction for language development and access to content.
  • A passionate language teacher the candidate should have strong academic knowledge and facility with a World Languages curriculum for Armenian. The candidate should fulfill the WHS mission of teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully justify their reasoning and consider multiple perspectives.
  • As Watertown is committed to the practice of teaching world languages for proficiency the candidate should have a strong background in the ACTFL proficiency guidelines and current Massachusetts Standards for teaching a world language.
  • The candidate should possess good communication and interpersonal skills in order to have an ongoing collaboration with core academic teachers and provide MLs with sheltered instruction and other effective strategies in their classrooms as well as other peoples classrooms. They should work effectively and creatively with colleagues.
  • The candidate would communicate with parents as required and as appropriate. S/he should have experience working with and/or teaching high school students; an understanding of the needs of students at this age; a collaborative work ethic; and a commitment to inclusive pedagogy. Proficient use of email spreadsheets Google Docs etc. for department communication and file sharing is required.
  • Plan and provide high-quality instruction in history and social studies aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Curriculum Frameworks
  • Create engaging standards-based lessons that promote historical inquiry analysis of primary and secondary sources and critical thinking
  • Develop and implement a program of study that meets the diverse needs interests and abilities of students
  • Assess student learning and use data to inform instruction and support student growth
  • Establish a positive structured classroom environment that promotes respectful discourse and student engagement
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs of learners
  • Maintain appropriate standards of behavior mutual respect and safety
  • Collaborate with colleagues counselors and administration to support student success
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations
  • Participate in team meetings professional development and ongoing curriculum planning
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance
  • Administer assessments in accordance with district and state guidelines
  • The successful candidate will invest in the life of the school by participating in professional development such as faculty and department meetings as required. Demonstrated professional behavior including discretion judgment and integrity as well as effective interaction with a diverse population of students and faculty is essential.

Qualifications Required:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree is required; a Masters degree is preferred.
  • Appropriate MA DESE certification for World Language.
  • All prospective employees must be able to clear the required background checks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing with students families and colleagues
  • Experience teaching high school
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices and diverse learning needs
  • Experience with data-informed instruction and curriculum development

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit stand walk talk hear operate a computer hand-held learning devices and other office equipment reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
