Job Description:

Begin your professional journey with a research-focused internship as a student intern in the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Division of Aeronautics.


Job Duties:

As our Aeronautics Intern you will assist the Divisions engineering staff primarily with research-based project work including:

  • Contact public-use general aviation airports to collect survey data on hangar inventory conditions dimensions and rental rates as part of a statewide research project.
  • Record organize and maintain accurate data from airport contacts; follow up to clarify or verify information as needed.
  • Conduct site visits to public-use airports across Nebraska to make facility observations and capture photos for project documentation as required.
  • Prepare summaries spreadsheets and basic reports to support aeronautics planning and engineering activities.
  • Assist staff with PCI inspections and state public-use airport licensing inspections including onsite observations documentation complete checklists and gathering information.
  • Perform general administrative and project support duties as assigned.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a three-fourth time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a minimum of 2 years in an undergraduate degree program.
  • Typical programs include Air Transport Administration Aviation Systems Management Aviation Management Private Pilots License Database Management and GIS Management.

Other:

  • Applicants must be able to work at least 10 hours a week when classes are in session.
  • Temporary full-time employment may be available during scheduled school breaks.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Skills in technical writing.
  • Clear communication skills.
